I'm wanting to upgrade my Remington 870 right now and add a flashlight. I see a lot of options though and unsure what to do with.

On the high end I've seen people recommend these Surefire forends:

These look awesome and seem like the best of the best, but they cost from about $300-$450 which is completely insane. Why the Hell is a light the same price or MORE than the shotgun itself?!

On the lower end I've seen people use scope rings and cheap flashlights. This seems dangerous since I don't know about the reliability of one of these flashlights, plus they seem a lot more bulky. I'd be afraid it wouldn't work when I actually need it to work in a real combat/defense situation.

Suggestions, recommendations, and so on are welcome. Thank you.

Don't go cheap. Face reality, you're talking about life and death issues. I bought the http://www.surefire.com/618lm.html for my 870 and it's an excellent light.

I'm seeing the same thing on E-bay for $100 less.
