Might have already been covered here. If so I missed it. I suppose if gas gets to ten bux a gallon you might be able to recover your costs in a year or so depending on how many miles you drive.
30,000 miles all highway at 84 mpg ... 360 gal x $10 = $3,600
30,000 miles all highway at 30 mpg ... 1,000 gal x $10 = $10,000 [for comparison]
disclaimer .... your mileage may vary

Why Elio? Simple …
84 mpg
It gets 84 miles to the gallon on the highway. That means you can go from Detroit to New York City on a tank of gas – or drive from Shreveport LA to Dallas and back – then back to Dallas again – and still have about 110 miles left before a refill. How is that possible? Keep reading.
8-Gallon Tank
It can go 672 miles, or thereabouts, because it has an 8-gallon tank and 8X84=672. Of course, other factors will affect your mileage but you get the point.
Find out how much you can save with
the Elio money saver calculator – click Elio_Calculator-arrows
Only $6,800
It only costs $6,800. That’s about what you would pay for an outboard motor to power a rowboat.
Safety
Each Elio comes equipped with a Safety Management System that includes three airbags – a reinforced roll-cage frame, Anti-Lock Braking System, and 50% larger crush zones than similar vehicles. Preliminary safety tests on computer models anticipate a 5-Star safety rating.
American Made = American Jobs
It should come as no surprise that Elio will create a number of much-needed jobs for American workers. We’re estimating 1,500 jobs at our Shreveport, LA plant beginning in 2014.
Fun
It’s a blast to drive. Imagine every little errand, every daily commute being something you look forward to because it means you’ll be driving your Elio. It looks cool. And face it, you are what you drive, so that will make you one cool person.
Unique
Because of its unique design, people will talk. They’ll also stare, smile, give you a thumbs up and who knows what else. And while everyone is smiling at you from the outside, trust us, you’ll be smiling from within.
Eco-Friendly
This is a very green vehicle – and we’re not just talking about the color. Yes, it gets 84 MPG on the highway, but you’ll be doing your share of city driving, too. Fear not, with its city rate of 49 MPG, you’ll be consuming only 1/3 of what the average American vehicle consumes.
Power in Numbers
An inline, 3 cylinder, .9 liter, 55 HP, fuel-injected, SOHC gas-powered, liquid-cooled, automotive engine.
Our Transmission Mission
5-speed manual or automatic. And yes, it has a reverse gear.
Fast Facts
Top speed is in excess of 100 MPH, and the 0-60 speed is under 9.6 seconds. So it’s not exotic sports car fast, but it’s not slow, either. And while a gas-guzzling muscle car might pass you, no one will pass gas stations like you.
Great Traction
The engine is in the front and it is a front-wheel-drive vehicle. So, with a low center of gravity and weight towards the front, you’ll get great traction action – even in the snow.
You Deserve a Big Brake
We will have 3-wheel disc brakes with the Anti-Lock Braking System on 15″ wheels. So your Elio will not only stop onlookers in their tracks, it’ll stop you, too – quickly and safely.
A Suspension as Independent as You
The first cousin of cool is smooth. So we’ve built Elio on an independent suspension with unequal length control arms, coil-over-spring and shock in the front and mono-shock with coil-over-spring and shock in the rear. The ground clearance is 5.75″ — similar to most of the passenger vehicles you see on the road today.
Heads Up. A Word About Interior Room
Interior measurements are as follows:
Headroom: Driver 39.8 Passenger 36.4 in
Seat width: Driver 20.6 Passenger 25.3 in
Interior Shoulder Width: 26.8 in
Front seat Legroom: 42.7 in
Rear seat Legroom: 33.1 in
Elio has been designed to fit 95% of all men. The tallest person we have had in the Elio is a 6’8″ former college basketball player, the largest is a 6’3″ 365 lb man, and the smallest is a 5’0″ woman (no, we didn’t ask the weight!). They all fit and loved it! If you are outside of these sizes, you’ll just have to hop into an Elio yourself and see how it fits.
How about the outside
Overall Length: 160.5″
Front Wheel Track: 66.8″ (center rim to center rim)
Wheelbase: 110″ (center of front wheels to center of rear wheel)
Overall Height: 54.2″
Listen to the Sound of Silence
The body panels are made of a composite (which is more sound deadening than steel) and attached to a tight, solid body that doesn’t have a lot of moving (read squeaky) parts. These two design features help keep outside noise from getting into the cockpit and getting in the way of your favorite tunes playing on our AM/FM radio
(that’s standard).
When You Need Your Space
The trunk space will be at least 27″ x 14″ x 10″, enough for an airline carry-on bag or a golf bag with the rear seat down (47″+). If you’re the working type, tools, blueprints, briefcases, and who knows what else can also be accommodated.
Uncommon Standards
When you own an Elio, you’re not just a customer, you’re part of a family. So we’re not going to lure you in with that $6,800 low price, only to mention things like A/C and an AM/FM radio are extra. They’re not. You get those items plus heater, defrost, the three airbags, power windows and door lock, seat belts, tempered glass, and windshield wiper at no extra cost.

The loremo was supposed to get 120 mpg. This was years ago, they drove one across the US on 3 small tanks of gas.
Now the website, which was aimed at the US, is now in German. What happened to them? I'm guessing big oil crushed their dreams of selling to the US.

i was carrying a large beach towel so i provided shade for the people laying on the broiling hot pavement.
the woman's arm, looking like the meat counter at Safeway ... they asked for my towel so they could wrap her arm in it.
never got my towel back.
a life changing accident for both people on the motorcycle. i think the woman was dying. a small pickup pulled out in front of them, they hit it going about 45. i saw the people flying through the air. it looked like a Rag Doll simulation in 3D Max, except it was real.
even before that, i was driving a full size pickup because i knew my day would come, and i wanted side impact protection.
i don't think it's wise to drive a vehicle like that one there in normal traffic. too many idiots driving 3000 pound cars on the roads, each of which have the ability to incapacitate majorly.

Around here the interstates are busy but the state highways and county roads are generally pretty vacant. The high gas prices and low paying jobs have really helped reduce traffic. Maybe that is why the states are complaining about no money to fix the roads. Too bad. So sad!!!

The target price of $6,800 is so low it got me to thinking that most if not all of the components for this will probably be hecho en Chino.
ETA: I checked out their supplier page and when clicking on each of the supplier logos you can see that most of them are OEM suppliers to pretty much all of the major auto manufacturers so on second thought this may be something to keep a close eye on.

Pssst ... the 84 mpg is a GOAL ... a design concept ... hasn't gotten achieved yet. Just thought you should know.
How Elio Became a Billion-Dollar Startup in Two Days
http://www.inc.com/jeremy-quittner/elio-achieves-billion-dollar-threshold-in-two-days.html
Well, that was fast.
Elio Motors, the upstart car company that went public using an update to fundraising rules from the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act, took exactly two trading days to achieve a value of more than a billion dollars.
The jump in the company's market cap is particularly noteworthy given how many highly valued private companies have seen their private share prices knocked down in recent months, and that the IPO market generally has been quiet in 2016. Elio went public over the summer, raising $17 million from 6,600 unaccredited investors, using a crowdfunding platform called StartEngine. (An unaccredited investor has a net worth of less than $1 million, or an annual income less than $200,000.)
In June, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) altered a decades-old rule called Regulation A, which allowed private companies to solicit funding from wealthy investors up to $5 million. The update, called Regulation A+, allows private companies to raise money in two tiers, for amounts up to $20 million and $50 million, including from unaccredited investors.
Elio, which trades on the OTCQX Market, an exchange for smaller companies, has 25 million shares outstanding, according to its September SEC filing. Frequently, companies move from the OTCQX to larger exchanges, such as Nasdaq or the New York Stock Exchange. But during a public forum last Thursday, company founder and chief executive Paul Elio said he had no intention of moving anytime soon.
On its first day of trading, Elio's shares increased 17 percent, to $16.50, after pricing to open at $14. By end of day Monday, they had jumped to $60, giving the company a market cap of $1.5 billion, roughly triple its value when shares began trading.
Elio, based in Phoenix, manufactures an aerodynamic three-wheel car capable of getting 84 miles per gallon. The cars, which will sell for a base price of $6,800, will begin production in late 2016, according to a company spokesman.

50 plus MPG cars not allowed in the U.S. or Canada
Jim Stone, July 12, 2013
Permalink (http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/50plus.html)
Americans get guilt tripped by their own government for driving huge gas sucking cars. Americans are called wasteful, and are often shown graphs of how much energy they use compared to the rest of the world. But what if the problem is not the American people, but those who govern them? The following report is intended to be a wake up call for the American people. There are no tricks here, such as quoting imperial gallons, referencing tiny cars, electric cars, or even hybrids. These cars are straight up 50 plus mile per gallon winners which are banned for sale in the U.S., and if you think you can bring one home, think again, in America such cars are allowed a 30 day visit upon crossing the border, after which if they are found on American soil they get impounded and if not immediately shipped out of the country thereafter they are destroyed.
The U.S. government quotes as a reason for such behavior that said cars are "not up to American standards". But what about Europe, where they are allowed? European standards are every bit as high as American standards, (BMW vs Ford) but with a simple quote from the government, American people will turn their nose and say if it is not up to American standards we do not want it here. But under all of this is a damning reality - there is nothing wrong with these cars other than the fact that they are too efficient and will reduce corporate profits as a result.
http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/urbancruiser.jpg
Lets get started
With a combined mileage of 52.8 U.S. mpg and an even higher highway mpg, the Urban Cruiser SUV crossover by Toyota, which is a European version of the Scion XD features front wheel drive for the ultimate mileage and if you are willing to sacrifice and get the 4 wheel drive version, you will suffer in life with a combined mileage of 48 mpg. Highway mileage is considerably higher which will help make any vacations enjoyable. Al Gore is not happy with this one, so you
can forget about it in the U.S. http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/quashquai.jpg
With a highway mileage of 56 mpg per U.S. gallon, the Nissan Qashqai SUV crossover would be sure to make any carbon tax junkie shiver with dread. Fortunately the American version delivers only 26 highway mpg (22 combined) so the local carbon tax tyrant can rest easy. I would like to ask HOW ON EARTH the difference could be so huge. True, the ultimate mileage is compliments of a diesel engine but that cannot account for such a severe mileage cut. The American version has got to be intentionally detuned to deliver horrific comparable mileage. And that is not the end of it, on E85 fuel which is rapidly being forced on the American people, the mileage drops to an amazingly low 18/23which is not only good for the oil companies, it´s damaging to the U.S. economy which would be better off having that money go toward house payments and durable goods. This much of a difference in efficiency between U.S. and European versions is not happening by accident, it can only be intentional economic sabotage.
Here's a good one
http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/bluemotion.jpg
With 78.5 imperial miles per gallon highway, the 1.6 blue motion TDI Volkswagen Passat wagon is definitely forbidden in America, where in the smaller American gallons it would deliver a carbon tax blood curdling 65.4 highway mpg. I never laughed at the 70 mpg carburetor even as a kid. How would that do you on vacation? And even city fuel mileage comes in at over 50 miles per U.S. gallon. Ever see National Lampoons vacation?
The car is THAT big. They are flat out banned in America, and if you manage to get one into the states, you will be allowed 30 days to leave with it or it will be impounded and crushed. I looked into this topic, and when it comes to cars like this they really are banned even if purchased elsewhere and really will get taken by the government if you do not get them out of the country on time. Take a look at what an American who rented one of these in Europe had to say (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBnlXGvA1Wk) when he got home and could not buy one even though they are manufactured in America and shipped out of the country.
And now, the punch line
http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/290mpg.jpg
This is the 261 MPG volkswagen I mentioned a few months ago. Yeah, that station wagon delivering 65 U.S. MPG looks pretty good for an American family, but 261 mpg is pretty tempting. Perhaps I'd spring for it, and certainly if I managed to get one into Mexico it would not get crushed. But don't even think about approaching the U.S. border with this one, if 65 MPG from a large station wagon will get your car taken away by the FED, this bad boy would land you in prison. It ended up getting ridiculed for only achieving a combined mileage of 160 MPG in U.S. gallons (192 combined in Imperial gallons), (http://autofixx.com/2013/after-testing-vw-xl1-hybrid-falls-short-of-claims-averaging-only-160-mpg/) but come on now, at that point, WHO CARES. Even at 160 MPG combined, which means the highway mpg is well into the 200's, this particular car exposes the fuel mileage lie so harshly that there is absolutely no recovery or hiding from the truth, even Europeans are getting scammed at 65 mpg while Americans are getting more than raped.
How long are Americans going to continue to tolerate a government that can't even be honest about fuel economy, all the while that same government back stabs the American psyche with illusions of wastefulness?
http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/renault1.jpg
I now feel stupid about even mentioning that 64 U.S. mpg Seat Toledo (http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/holytoledo.html)I did a big write up about earlier. The only reason why I thought that car was remarkable is because I myself had been fooled, that station wagon mentioned above is a whole lot better. And that is not even the best there is. If you take the time to wade through all the censorship, you will eventually discover that there are over 20 full sized cars, including 10 SUV's that get combined mileage figures over 50 U.S. MPG, and that's not counting econoboxes. Even Renault has a 4 door hatch back that gets over 80 combined imperial MPG and pushes well over 100 imperial mpg on the highway. (http://www.nationwide-cars.co.uk/cars/renault_megane_diesel_hatchback_d55025.asp) ( Megane expression pictured here.) This equates to 65 US MPG combined, 85 mpg highway, and though it is not a full sized car, it could hardly be called an "econobox".
Americans need to stand up and demand the government to stop censoring search results to prevent Americans from learning the truth elsewhere. Americans need to stand up and call the government on the carpet over the lies that "40 MPG can be achieved in the future" all the while even American car companies such as Ford are producing 65 plus MPG cars for sale on foreign markets right on American soil. It is time to end the lie, and tell these scamming frauds in our government to STICK IT.
If there is any "conspiracy" you could use to wake Americans up, it is this one, these cars are real and not just a bunch of blurry UFO photos. You cannot let the truth slip away on the basis of "the cars not being up to American standards", especially when those standards are forced to include having always on cell connections to every car that can be used to commit murder when the government deems fit as they did in the case of Hastings. There is nothing better about American "improvements" or "standards" that is in any way more beneficial to the people than the European counterparts, and forcing every car to give the government the option to murder via wire is an "improvement" every American can certainly live without. I'd take a fuel economy improvement over that ANY DAY.

The Euro standard is amount of pollution per MILE (or KM).
So more emphasis in Europe to get better MPG while in the US of A more emphasis on normalized pollution per unit of volume.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/golly-elio-motors-built-car-one-test-car-133000138.html
Golly, Elio Motors has built ... a car! One test car, in fact
Increasingly sophisticated computer modeling software has cut the number of prototypes and test cars that carmakers build.
But they must still make dozens of vehicles that will never be sold, to test assembly, evaluate features, conduct durability tests, and wreck them to assess crash-safety ratings.
Those vehicles, destined to be crushed at the ends of their hard lives, generally don't rate press releases.
DON'T MISS: The Challenges Elio Faces For Its 3-Wheel, '84-MPG', $6,800 Car (Apr 2015)
So we were bemused to get a slightly breathless announcement yesterday from startup Elio Motors saying that it had built ... a test car.
To be fair, the company says the car—code-named E1A—is the first of 23 such "E-Series" test and validation vehicles.
They'll be used for all the same development tests that any carmaker has to conduct, which will "help refine and finalize the overall design prior to final production."

Elio Motors calls completion of its first E-Series test car "one of the company's most important milestones in its march toward production."
E1A was unveiled, it said, in front of more than 200 suppliers, executives, and engineers who played key roles in the car's development.
"This is another banner day in Elio Motors' history," said the company's CEO and founder, Paul Elio, "as we continue to achieve important objectives, one after another."
ALSO SEE: NHTSA To Alter Vehicle Code To Prevent 3-Wheelers Like Elio
"As a veteran manufacturing exec," said Elio's vice president of manufacturing Gino Raffin, "these are the days that still get the blood pumping."
The results of testing the E-Series three-wheelers will let the Elio team "make final adjustments prior to tooling up for production," Elio noted.
After the tests are completed, Elio plans to build 100 pre-production vehicles in a former GM assembly plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, that had assembled Hummers.

Elio's two-seat, three-wheeled vehicle is intended to sell for a base price of $6,800 and achieve a highway fuel-economy rating of 84 miles per gallon.
The company says it has received 55,000 reservations for the car, representing potential sales of $300 million.
ALSO SEE: Elio Raises $22 Million From Small Investors, Still Needs $130 Million More (Jul 2015)
Earlier this year, it raised $17 million through small-investor crowdfunding under a new law that allows less-wealthy "non-accredited" investors to put up to $15,000 into startup companies.
The company's shares are also publicly traded, as of this past February.

Elio said last year that it would need $230 million to start volume production at the Shreveport plant.
Reportedly, the company is pinning its hopes on getting a loan from the Department of Energy's Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing low-interest loan program.
CHECK OUT: Future Of '84-MPG' Elio 3-Wheeler Depends On Government Loans
Those funds, first allocated in 2008, offer loans to carmakers and suppliers to upgrade facilities and build more efficient cars, with fuel efficiency at least 25 percent higher than those they replace.
No automakers have received loans under the program in six years.

For me, if I only needed to go max8 - 10kms round trip 5 - 6 miles. And probably only in 180 degree radius, because of hills the other way
To me a scooter would make more sense. Weather protection is an issue some 1/3 of the year. Get an electric scoot or even a 50cc should give you up to 84mpg and you could range further a field. Usually good amount of under seat stowage.
If you have a lot of money you could go for a Renault twizy or what ever they are called. You get about 40kms so 25 or so miles. Claimed 100kms/60mi, I think people say as much as 80k on the flat stuff and 40k in the hills. 1 + 1 seating. Doors and windows are extra. Basically it's an electric quad. Not road legal in many places including here. I could see them being legal but only in certain areas. Village type places with narrow streets, slow traffic anyway, not on the highway or dual carriage. So local commute.
If quads were legal you could look at some thing from Polaris, a side by side etc.
Or just get a gopher, then you can go into the mall, the casino, pretty much anywhere, and you can be obnoxious as well.

I grabbed a scooter that someone stopped using, thinking great things. Cleaned and tuned it up into top condition and took it out a bit. 35mpg no shit... better to take my hog using bMW with AC in with 20MPG than that 2 wheel POS. Once electronic ignition came to pass it all went downhill.

I think you need to be 16, thin as a stick, < 120 punds and you have to tuck in and wring the neck out of it to get anywhere. Downhill and a tail wind also helps.
I see people on 50cc scooters and they can barely keep up in a 40mph zone. I think you need minimum 125cc for scooting.
Honda go a motorbike called an nc700 something that has scooter style under seat storage and gets somewhere above 60mpg. In the 70's I think. Is 600+cc though. Has DCT which is automated manual. You can ride it as a levered manual, as an auto or you get some push buttons for changing up and down.
There is a web site called Fuelly.com where people submit their real world fuel economy. You can get a pretty good idea of what MPG different vehicle are really doing.

I like the little Honda Groms, MSX 125. Posted about them before. Hooligan bikes. When I want a chuckle I check out some YT's. The kids seem to have a lot of fun with them.
They get 80mpg worst case. Average 100mpg. (http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/honda/grom_125)
