I like the idea of reputation replacing regulation in exchanges. It's a shift in the right direction--to voluntarism. If people have access to information about your reputation, and it's not that good, there will be some self-regulation happening. Either that, or nobody will do business with you.

I think as this movement gets momentum, we will be seeing some heavy handed fascist maneuvering to subvert it. The 'owners' won't easily let go of their slaves.

This is why underground sites like Silk Road have been such a success. Relying on a user's reputation, which is reinforced by dozens or hundreds of individual feedbacks, is more reliable than some govt beauacracy "guaranteeing" his/her promises.
