Was he to close to the truth in one of his novels?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Noted author Tom Clancy died Tuesday night at the age of 66 while in a Baltimore hospital, Publishers Weekly and the New York Times reports.

Clancy was well known for his military and espionage novels, video games, and movies, including “The Hunt for Red October” and “Rainbow Six.”

He was old enough that natural causes are likely. He was in the hospital.

Natural causes?.....like what?.....many of us here are over 66 and doing great.......66 is not old at all.......why hell, even 100 is not old at all, to me is only a number that you have and not a number that tells you that it is time to die.

I'm not saying that 66 means you have to be ready to die. But if you don't take care of yourself very well 66 is old enough to have serious health problems. Even some 40 year olds are having heart attacks these days, it is just a lot less common.

Robert Ludlum was much better. The difference between him and Clancy is Clancy's novels always had the govt as the good guy and the hero that swoops in and saves the day, whereas Ludlums novels were about a faction within govt, a cancer, that had to be defeated from the outside, normally by an average guy(s) or a disenchanted spy.

I highly recommend reading The Matarese Circle which was written in 1979 and is based on the formation of the Trilateral Commission. It's fiction but, knowing what we know today, it makes even more sense than it probably did 34 years ago.

Shame, good stories. I thougth I heard somewhere he had a major run in over some thing recently. One of the games, books or movies was being changed too much or maybe the people commmercialising it were going after him for some thing. I can't recall. Seems about average age. Was he a smoker perhaps?

Almost every picture I ever saw of him he was holding a cigarette, he also may of had a family Hx of cardiac disease or Ca, good author though
