Ancient Confession Found: 'We Invented Jesus Christ' (http://uk.prweb.com/releases/2013/10/prweb11201273.htm)

Atwill asserts that Christianity did not really begin as a religion, but a sophisticated government project, a kind of propaganda exercise used to pacify the subjects of the Roman Empire. "Jewish sects in Palestine at the time, who were waiting for a prophesied warrior Messiah, were a constant source of violent insurrection during the first century," he explains. "When the Romans had exhausted conventional means of quashing rebellion, they switched to psychological warfare. They surmised that the way to stop the spread of zealous Jewish missionary activity was to create a competing belief system. That's when the 'peaceful' Messiah story was invented. Instead of inspiring warfare, this Messiah urged turn-the-other-cheek pacifism and encouraged Jews to 'give onto Caesar' and pay their taxes to Rome."

Atwill's most intriguing discovery came to him while he was studying "Wars of the Jews" by Josephus [the only surviving first-person historical account of first-century Judea] alongside the New Testament. "I started to notice a sequence of parallels between the two texts," he recounts. "Although it's been recognised by Christian scholars for centuries that the prophesies of Jesus appear to be fulfilled by what Josephus wrote about in the First Jewish-Roman war, I was seeing dozens more. What seems to have eluded many scholars is that the sequence of events and locations of Jesus ministry are more or less the same as the sequence of events and locations of the military campaign of [Emperor] Titus Flavius as described by Josephus. This is clear evidence of a deliberately constructed pattern. The biography of Jesus is actually constructed, tip to stern, on prior stories, but especially on the biography of a Roman Caesar."

yes no need to suffer christian burdensome traits like empathy, truth and consequence. Do as thou wilt for care has been burned eternal.

Also it suffers many people to be slaves by causing them to pay trbute anyone claiming ruler/subruler status. I thought that an interesting position. At worst we are bing offered another path.

I would say that most of the books stories are made up for the purpose of making a point or claiming a non existant right over others. It's not the christians that need to be wary of. Its the do what you eant and fuck the consequences crowd you need to be worried about. So thats only about 80% of the western worlds population including this guy.

I loath "experts" and "scholars" because they are some how unimpeachable regardless of how much bullshit they speak. I like the idea of not paying taxes though and well if becoming a satanist/atheist means no taxes.... that must be ok. No?

I do think it is likely that Jesus was invented, but the OP title is misleading. They don't present any historical evidence where a Flavian family member admits to inventing Christianity... I really don't think it is a good start to make unsubstantiated claims.

Just listen to about a dozen of these radio programs from the longest running radio show in the world. If the word of God does not convince you Jesus Christ is real, maybe the testimony from a few thousand people from every walk of life, from every part of the world might change your mind.

Yes but that is different than:

Yes they may have very well written the Gospels, but there was never an ancient confession found. I find it a bit odd when claiming that the Gospels are false, that you would use false statements to back that claim, but maybe I am old fashioned...

You're a Chiropractor, not a salesmen, Jim. :)

Is a good video, perhaps why they titled the article as such.... sub-text
