We have what I would call a world-wide 'authoritarian scourge'. By hook or by crook, people are going to learn to conform and obey. A resort to force in solving problems is quick and decisive. Mussolini made the trains run on time in Italy this way. The plebs are motivated by fear, the elite by greed.

I tend to see the murder of citizens by police as a barometer of where we are on the authoritarian scourge scale. As a nation, we have not yet learned to reflexively conform and obey the police. We hang on to our freedoms and our rights. The number of murders by police will continue to increase as long as we hold on to those rights and freedoms. Eventually, they will teach us by example. Obey or die. We will all cower before the police. Just as they have done in all other totalitarian regimes. When the police murders taper off, it will be a signal that the authoritarians have conquered us. Or that we have won this struggle.
