Any suggestions? preferably not an overly expensive one and not some gigantic monster of a watch.
I figured it would be nice to have an automatic watch as a backup watch. I have looked at Seiko 5, but the reviews are very varied.

Watches are for commercial people. The sun is a natural timepiece so the solution to time measurement is

I would check out pmwf.com (poor man's watch forum). There are both private sellers and people that advertise their company on there.

The only time I need to know the time is when I'm at work. Brewing is very exact, timing-wise. Other than that, don't give a fu*k what time it is.
Sorry I couldn't be more help, thread wise.

yes time is either day light or some other time. Or afternoon, morning kind of thing. Don't wear one because they are everywhere now days. have one to sell though and this might work.

The delusional use commercial time. Before the trains had a need to come up with a meaningful schedule people used local time rather than standard time. The switch was done for commercial reasons.
In the event you are unaware of local time here is the method
1) 6 a.m. marks sunrise
2) 6 p.m. marks sunset
3) noon is when the sun is overhead
Check your state code so see where your states time is established. In Iowa it is in the SOVEREIGNTY section. Obey them and recognize your state's sovereignty.

If you really want to kick it old school, you can use the planetary hours (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_hours).

The first "hour" of the day on Sunday is the hour of the Sun, the next hour is Venus, then Mercury, then the Moon, then Saturn, then Jupiter, then Mars, and then the Sun again until the cycle is repeated.
So today, right now where I am, it is the first Hour of Mars on Tuesday (the Day of Mars, from the Latin dies Martis).
