View Full Version : CNN Throws In the Towel; Moves Away from News

CNN appears to be throwing in the towel, at least when it comes to being a cable news channel. With its ratings and reputation sinking, CNN announced Friday that the third-place network will be investing heavily in everything except serious news-gathering. This new focus will be towards "a variety of unscripted formats, including other travel shows, and 'immersive' nonfiction programs." This also includes documentary films like "Blackfish."

CNN still says that its "bread and butter" will always be breaking news. But it is in that arena that the network has been hit hardest. Once upon at time, even when Fox News dominated in the ratings, CNN would still come in first when big news broke. America was still turning to CNN when it mattered.

Today, Fox News not only dominates the everyday ratings but retains that domination during big news events, such as the Boston Marathon bombing and this week's off-year elections. Moreover, during big news, CNN is now losing to low-rated MSNBC.

The writing on the wall is clear: CNN simply will not survive if it attempts to continue on as a cable news network. Years of left-wing bias have cost the network its "Most Trusted Name In News" status, as has a series of factual bungles during big news events. During the Trayvon Martin story, both of these liabilities came out in full force.

CNN's desperation move to reinvent itself as something closer to the Discovery Channel is going to come at a huge price in the last remaining area CNN can boast about: profits. Despite its low ratings, CNN has always been hugely profitable. That is about to change. CNN is now in a position where it must go all in:

We are investing at CNN, part of a strategic decision to broaden it beyond politics and breaking news,” Time Warner C.E.O. Jeff Bewkes said on a call with investors. “These programming investments will put pressure on its margins, but will bring new advertisers to CNN.”

In fact Time Warner C.F.O. John Martin—who will take over Turner Broadcasting in January—cautioned investors that as a result of the investments, CNN may not see income growth for years.

“Financially, we don't break out network by network, but I will tell you directionally, CNN’s operating income this year is down, and that is because of proactive decisions by [CNN president] Jeff Zucker and the new team there to try and invest in the programming in many, many dayparts,” Martin said. “Going forward, we will continue to evaluate what the right level of investment is for CNN. The expectation is going to be on a multi-year basis this thing is going to go back to growth.”

Other than "The Lead with Jake Tapper" and programming outside of the news arena (Anthony Bourdain, "Blackfish, etc.), CNN is a dying network loaded with unappealing anchors who are abysmal at delivering in-depth, objective news coverage.

Now CNN has been forced to risk it all to become something else.

I sometimes have the Commie Nooz Nyetwerk playing in the background, not really watching it but kinda sorta observing what they're spewing (know your enemy per Master Sun and all that). Well the other night I caught a bit of their line of TOTAL NONSENSE about the nuke industry, a one hour presentation call 'Pandora's Promise' or some such - it was like an all out promotion of the nuke industry. Could not have been more disgusting and disturbing in light of Fukushima. Of course there was no mention of the ongoing Fukushima calamity from the little bit that I picked up on.

CNN has reached a new zenith of falsehood and fabrication.

And another thing, this is more of the trend of providing 'infotainment' as a distraction rather than journalism/reporting - ANYTHING to keep people from looking around and seeing all the horseshit coming at them in their lives.

Its funny I never really paid attention to Comie News but know that you mention it you know what I noticed?

You dont have a identifiable persons to their network.

Nobody sticks out. You see tons of faces and they give them all sorts of top billing but you cant relate.... that is also evidence by the fact that they are allowing more barbie doll female broadcasters to deliver content in the hope that people will tune in because " sex sells"

All the mainstream media has moved away from what we (at GSUS) consider 'news'. News is what journalists do. They ask questions. News is 'investigative journalism'. What the Mainstream Media does is entertainment. But they call it 'news'. Don't be fooled. It's not news. It's entertainment. The Russians had a joke when they were the Soviet Union. There is no Izvestia (News) in Pravda (Truth) and there is no Pravda in Izvestia. Both Pravda and Izvestia were 'newspapers'. In America the joke is There is no news in the news, only entertainment. And that's not news--it's been like that for many decades. But we all missed it because we were being entertained so well. And truth? Fuhgeddaboudddit.

CNN Airs Outrageous
Lies About Nuclear Energy
Pandora’s Propaganda By Dick Allgire
Honolulu
11-8-13

I happened to catch the CNN special program “Pandora’s Promise” last night. CNN has reached a new zenith of falsehood and fabrication.

In the final days of the US invasion of Iraq the world chuckled at the ridiculous utterances of the Iraqi Information Minister Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf. “Baghdad Bob,” as he came to be known, gained prominence for his ridiculous declarations. His words were so pathetically false they were actually humorous.

CNN (our own Ministry of Truth) has broadcast a documentary that rivals Baghdad Bob for knee-slapping false information; lies, fiction and falsehoods. The presentation was a pro-nuclear propaganda job titled “Pandora’s Promise.”

Interesting title, alluding to Pandora’s Box, the artifact of Greek mythology that when opened released all the evil that spread throughout the world. We may have indeed opened Pandora’s Box with the full China Syndrome meltdown of three reactors and the upcoming ignition of the thousands of tons of highly radioactive spent fuel rods at Fukushima. But this is not a problem, according to the producers of “Pandora’s Promise.”

The show was produced by the nuclear industry, and dutifully broadcast by CNN without any attempt at balance, fairness or accuracy.

Remember Baghdad Bob’s best one-liners as the American invaders were literally just blocks away?

“There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!”

“They’re not even within 100 miles of Baghdad. They hold no place in Iraq.”

“We have destroyed 2 tanks, fighter planes, 2 helicopters and their shovels. We have driven them back.”

Now, with deadly radiation pouring constantly and continuously out of Fukushima, and no conceivable way to stop it, with the Pacific Ocean being destroyed, CNN gives us these absurd declarations:

“No birth defects resulted from the Chernobyl disaster.”

“No American has ever been killed as a result of nuclear energy.”

“Solar power is many time more dangerous than nuclear power.”

“No one living in the exclusion zone near Chernobyl has ever died of cancer or any other diseases because of the radiation.”

“Nuclear energy is the safe solution to global warming.”

Really, it was better than Baghdad Bob, delivered with great videography, beautiful graphics. The outrageous lies in Pandora’s Promise were so absurd as to be humorous. But this is no laughing matter. Fukushima is the worst catastrophe in human history.

Millions of years from now, when the earth’s crust reforms and obliterates the scars and ditritus of our failed time on the planet, a new civilization may detect a layer of abnormally high radioactivity and wonder how the entire planet was so contaminated all at once. Pandora’s Promise.
