Actually, in the real world, never - but a serious protection dog would preclude retarded aftermath problems such as this in a justifiable shooting -

My dog is for early warning. Able to smell & hear things that I cannot. It covers my blind side.

When you're asleep or indoors - and can't hear things going on outdoors.

A couple of you are apparently missing the point - a dog capable of taking down an intruder would have been a advantage in the case cited in the OP and would likely have mitigated the aftermath PROBLEMS - much like having a serious protection dog with him would have helped mitigated Geo. Zimmerman's aftermath PROBLEMS.

For those of you who think that 'the system' will simply let you off with a wink and a nod in the case of a justifiable shooting* and/or you have loads and loads of cash for a good defense attorney at your disposal, then never mind.

*anyone who's never been involved in a justifiable shooting has NO CLUE as to what to expect with regard to the aftermath
