The controversy surrounding a waitress who says she did not receive a tip because she is a lesbian has grown, as the family who allegedly wrote the message on their receipt tell NBC New York they did leave a tip, and have the financial record to prove it.

By Brynn Gingras, NBC New York

After a gay server at a New Jersey restaurant said a customer denied her a tip and wrote her a hateful note on the receipt, a local family contacted NBC 4 New York and said their receipt shows they paid a tip and didn't write any such note.

Dayna Morales, a former Marine and a server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, posted a photo on Facebook earlier this month, showing the bill with a line through the space for a tip. The photo of the receipt showed someone had written, "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle."

Morales indicated in her Facebook post, and in subsequent media interviews -- including with NBC 4 New York -- that the customer wrote that line.
But a family contacted NBC 4 New York claiming their receipt from the restaurant shows they did leave a tip, and provided what they said was a credit card statement as proof.

The husband and wife, who asked to remain anonymous, showed NBC 4 New York a receipt that appeared to be printed at the same minute, on the same date, for the same $93.55 total, except with an $18 tip.

They also provided a document they said was a Visa bill, which appears to indicate their card was charged for the meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55.

The couple told NBC 4 New York that they believed their receipt was used for a hoax. The wife says she is left-handed and could not have made the slash in the tip line, which she said looks to be drawn from the right.

"We've never not left a tip when someone gave good service, and we would never leave a note like that," the wife said.

The husband said he and his wife have both worked in restaurants and believe in the value of tipping, and noted that he didn't vote for Gov. Chris Christie because the governor doesn't support gay marriage.

"Never would a message like that come from us," he said.

Morales told NBC 4 New York on Monday that she was certain she did not receive a tip, and insisted the handwriting on the receipt was not hers. When asked if there had been some sort of misunderstanding, she said, "I don't know, all I know is what I've been saying."

A manager and the restaurant owner insisted they had the original ticket for the $93.55 charge, but would not produce the receipt for NBC 4 New York and could not explain why the family's credit card was charged for more.
The restaurant later said in a statement it was aware of the allegations and had no comment pending an internal investigation.
Whatever happened, the couple believes it may have begun with a misunderstanding.

They said they thought the hostess who sat the family told them their server would be "Dan," and when Morales showed up at their table, the wife exclaimed "whoa, you're not Dan."

Morales wrote in her Facebook post that the wife said, "oh I thought you were gonna say your name is Dan. You sure surprised us!"
According to the couple, the rest of the meal with their two children went fine.

They said they came forward because the story of the receipt note didn't appear to be going away; Morales had recently announced that people were sending her tips from all over the world, and was donating some of the money to the Wounded Warrior Project.

"I just felt like people have a right to know that -- it's fine of people want to donate to her or to the Wounded Warriors, but they're doing it under a false pretense," the wife said.

Is it possible a manager or someone else who works at the restaurant ran another copy, gave it to the waitress, with the nasty note; all as a scam to steal her tips?

If so, then the waitress and the customers are both victims...

Yes, I was thinking that too! I think it is a likely explanation!

Management always scams the tips from cr card purchases where my wife part times... No one to complain to when it is the managers.

Would be interesting to know if she served her full stint as a Marine and what MOS she was under. She might either be an innocent who got scammed by the restaurant or a s---bird.

The article says she put that receipt up on facebook, and people from all over the world sent her donations. Sounds like she made a profit from the whole thing. Doubt it was the managers.

I do have to wonder...Does HT believe in tipping? I mean it is the bottom sucking from the top, right? That's a good thing as it's the antithesis of the top sucking from the bottom.

1. This is newsworthy while the US economic is collapsing?
2. Obviously the waitress or the owners are lying.
3. The MSM is as useful as a asshole on your elbow.

As been pointed out, still think its likely she is getting stiffed by the employer and now everyone hates everyone and everyone must die or lose their jobs or something to make it all better. Bizarre but I'd be looking at the boss man.

This is pretty obviously "tip stolen by manager". The couple has a credit card statement showing they were billed for the full amount of the food plus the tip. The server has a receipt with a hateful note written on it by someone other than the couple. Who got the missing $18.00?

I do have to wonder...Does HT believe in tipping? It's a purely hypothetical question for him. He lives a cashless life in moms basement with holidays at the local mental institution, neither requires any medium of transaction, but I have heard he sometimes gives small things like used toothpicks as a gratuity, apart from his advice re the economic future of mankind.

I don't know, I'm seeing an attention seeking dyke myself. Would be easy enough for her to print a replacemet copy of the receipt w/o the tip written in.

yes well they can have a chip on their shoulder for sure and that can cause them to jump to conclusions like this. That everyone hates them etc. hate the world and so on.

Anyway the upshot is, she will probably lose her job or have to leave, 2 customers won't be coming back and someone got a tip but it probably wasn't the waiter and it's probably not worth all the kerfuffle.

Get tired of the constant gay rights BS all the time. Big deal, you're a dyke that like's to eat pussy.

I have a sexual preference for northern european blondes with prolific breasts.

Where's my special rights? Where's my underlying mainstream media agenda? Where's my parade?

Gay New Jersey waitress in tip flap is compulsive liar, friends say

A gay waitress who says she was stiffed on a tip due to her sexuality, a claim that sparked national outrage, is having her credibility questioned by several friends.
Dayna Morales, a 22-year-old ex-Marine, claimed earlier this month that a family of four who racked up a $93.55 bill at the Gallop Asian Bistro in Branchburg, N.J., left her no gratuity, just a note saying they couldn’t leave any extra money because they “do not agree with your lifestyle.”

Morales emailed the story to a gay advocacy website, and later posted a photograph of the purported check on her Facebook page. The story made national headlines and resulted in thousands of dollars being donated to Morales, who said she would send all proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.

But on Monday, the couple accused by Morales of leaving the note denied doing so (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Gay-Server-Tip-Lifestyle-Receipt-Discrepancy-233040811.html)http://global.fncstatic.com/static/v/all/img/external-link.png, according to WNBC-TV, going so far as to show the station copies of their Visa bill that apparently show a $111.55 payment to the restaurant – a total that includes a nearly 20 percent tip.

Now, people who know Morales are calling her credibility into question.
Kristina Calamusa, who describes herself as a former friend of Morales, told The Daily Caller (http://dailycaller.com/2013/11/27/new-jersey-hate-receipt-waitress-liar-say-friends/)http://global.fncstatic.com/static/v/all/img/external-link.png that the waitress claimed to her that she was “blown up by a land mine overseas.”
But, according to Calamusa, that story was false; Morales was never on active duty.

The Journal News of White Plains, N.Y., also quotes (http://www.lohud.com/article/20131126/NEWS/311260034/Waitress-tip-tale-former-Stony-Point-resident-lies-about-everything-former-co-workers-friends-say?nclick_check=1)http://global.fncstatic.com/static/v/all/img/external-link.png acquaintances of Morales who say she lied about her military service.
Julie Howat and Karolee Larkin, both 23, related to the newspaper a story Morales supposedly told them about her serving in Afghanistan and surviving an explosion that killed everyone in her platoon, leaving her as the unit’s sole survivor.

But Maj. Shawn Haney, a spokesman for the Marines, said in an email to The Journal News that while Morales did serve in the Marines Corps reserve from July 2009 to May 2013, there’s no indication in her record of combat service in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Also, Haney said, “while (Morales) did not fulfill her reserve obligation, per the Privacy Act, administrative actions are not releasable. The same applies to character of service and type of discharge.”
That’s not all Morales has lied about in the past, acquaintances say.

“She said that her dad raped her and got her pregnant,” Kiersten Bremer told The Daily Caller News Foundation. When Morales failed to produce a child, she told Bremer and other friends that she had cervical cancer which spread to the baby, killing it, Bremer claims.
Bremer says Morales later admitted she fabricated the entire story.

Another story comes from a day care center where she once worked, when she told co-workers that Superstorm Sandy so badly damaged her former home in Stony Point, N.Y., that a boat tore through the living room, The Journal News reported. Concerned friends who stopped by the house found only minor damage to the carpet by the front door and no indications of the catastrophic damage Morales described.
“Every story she comes up with has a lie,” Howat said.

Morales did not respond to requests for comment from The Daily Caller or The Journal News. Messages seeking comment from the Gallop Asian Bistro and the Wounded Warrior Project also went unanswered, The Daily Caller said.

There should be a police investigation into what the restaurant paid her. Did they pay her for the tip, or was the tip added tot he community tip jar?

Don't forget this one piece of the puzzle: Gallop ASIAN bistro. Chinese restaurants have notoriously evaded taxes by cheating on the books. Cash purchases are not logged into the books at many chinese dives. Is this a case of the owner trying to stiff the emplyees? If so, why go to the extreme of writing the stupid note?

A handwriting analysis should also prove who did this.

x-Wife's sister was a lesbian, I'd say about 50% in her crew liked to claim victim status.

Typically offset with a "completely in control" stigma.

That is what she has been trying to do, but the lack of basic essentials is frustrating her. She seems to be living by the moto: If you can't make it, fake it. Or.... if you don't like boys, be one.
