This is only in the way that I think and probably not others.........
Being smart is to be able to remember what others have written or told you so that you act upon it....in other words, you are a good tape recorder.
Being intelligent is to be able to created your own thoughts and to act upon it, to find solutions to problems where there is more than one solution.
Me? I have poor memory so that I have to act outside the box to find my own solutions, that makes me intelligent and not smart.
I have known, in person, only two people who were both smart and intelligent... my dad was one of them.
What do you think of this? am I right or wrong?

I think that's about right Ponce. Smart is how much you know. Intelligent is your ability to grasp concepts, and synthesize what you know to create new thoughts and ideas.

There's different levels of these things called "smarts", there's book smarts, street smarts, jungle smarts, mechanical smarts etc...etc.. Specialties if you will.
Then there's common sense and the ability to think outside the box to overcome a problem, this is often a "think fast" mentality that doesn't rely on formal education.
There's also other types as well, like the person who has a photographic memory, yeah, it's a great asset to have but....
When a person blends any and all of these traits then I would probably call them a genius but if I had to choose one or the other, I'd take the common sense person 1st. A few McGyvers/jack of all trades types is what I'd look for overall in a SHTF scenario. Specialties would be cool, esp medical.

I've got ME!.......McTree! thanks though :)
But smart ain't smart though, the dude I know who has the photographic memory is "smart" as hell but he's just a human filing cabinet, he has no ability to really critically think after his stored knowledge is spent.

My favorite Jamaican!
Funny thing about knowledge , seems the more you learn, the dumber you become. And realize one lifetime is not enough!

Knowing a lot of stuff, and being quick on your feet and in your mind are completely different things. Intelligence is how fast you learn from your mistakes.
Some people will never admit to making mistakes, so they don't learn from them. I avoid these people like the plague. And people who know a lot of stuff usually know a lot of useless stuff. They might be interesting but not usually very helpful. Likewise, intelligence only has value if it lets you survive and thrive.

Some can not help them selfs, but I agree the first step is to admit mistakes.
For most, mistakes are how lessons are learned, you have to live and make them to maybe learn. But knowledge is bankable depending of what is known.
