Boston Marathon bombing survivor James Costello – whose body was badly burned and shredded by shrapnel in the blasts – will soon marry a nurse whose tender care helped him on the hard road to recovery. Now, he and his betrothed, Krista D’Agostino, have embarked on a 10-day, all-expenses paid vacation to the south of France for bombing survivors and first responders, Boston’s WBZ-TV reported.
Costello, who was pictured in the media dazed with his clothes in tatters seconds after the April 15 blasts, first met D’Agostino at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, where he recovered after a series of operations.
The pair hit it off, and soon were inseparable, he wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday.
“As you all know, April 15th was one of the worst days of my life. I soon wondered why and for what reason this had happened,” wrote Costello, whose friends call him Bim.

“A couple weeks later I was transferred to Spaulding Hospital. A few days later I saw a nurse in passing, this would turn out to be Krista. After sharing a handful of conversations I realized not only how beautiful she was but also what a kind heart she had,” wrote Costello, who was at the finish line with pals when the bombs detonated. They went out on a few dates, and Costello finally had an answer to the question of why he was among the victims, he said.
“I now realized why I was involved in the tragedy, it was to meet my best friend, and the love of my life. Eights months later I’m happy to announce that we will spend the rest of our lives together… We got engaged last night in the middle of the beautiful French city Lyon!!!” he wrote on Facebook.

The couple travelled along with more than 100 other survivors of the bombings, along with family members and first responders.
They flew out of Boston’s Logan airport last week on the all-expenses-paid vacation to France, where they will embark on a 10-day river cruise courtesy of Vantage Travel, a Boston travel agency.
