That is all well and good but the problem is not inequality as i see it. We've always had that. The problem is how that inequality has expanded over the last decade or so. At some point, that expanse is going to have dire consequences on our existence, economy and society as a whole. I can see it coming to a point where the bottom 99% will not be able purchase or consume what the 1% are producing and selling. That's when the whole house of cards will implode and society starts to feed upon itself.

Agree, need is something now or things fall apart! Wanting something over what one has that still works or never had can be tested by not getting what one "wants" and waiting to see if your world falls apart if you did not get it!

The economy now is top heavy and bottom poor, those that have are doing fine "Thank you Mam" and the ones lower on the ladder are not. Bunch of labor/tech jobs have moved off shore, or have been automated. The bad thing is that there is really nothing to replace the jobs lost with jobs that have equal pay. My last good job that I enjoyed moved to Mexico and really have found anything at that level to replace it before I just quit looking and (which is it really ponce? retired or retarded? ;D ) went both! {0}

This country with the increasing gap between they that have and those that do not. Not because they are lazy but there is no path to make a better life for themselves, which depends on what region in the states one lives . The inequality problem is a result of widespread ignorance about how wealth is distributed in countries that have 'central banks' and debt based money. It is the money system that causes such extremes in the distribution of wealth.

Rather than going into a turgid explanation of the current system, which I know most people on this forum understand, I will offer a simple solution.

You are aware of a widespread sentiment expressed as 'End the Fed'. When you hear this mantra, you hear all about the evils of the Fed. What you rarely hear is a proposal of what to replace the Fed with. If you want to end the Fed, what sort of money system will you replace it with?

Well, here is a proposal that I think will arrest the inequality gap, if not reverse it. The issue is who should have the power to create money, and under what conditions, or rules. I would first start with a complete redefinition of money. To keep it simple, I would remove from its definition the feature of 'storehouse of value'. Money should have no value other than as a medium of exchange. People who want to accumulate wealth, should not accumulate wealth in the form of money. If you have excess money, you should buy something tangible with it, and keep wealth in that form--not as money. In other words--money should not be used as a medium of 'saving'. No one should have a savings account in a bank. Savings should be done with anything but money. The exception to that is if Gold and Silver are once again recognized as money--as the Constitution requires.

Furthermore, money should be deemed for legal purposes as something produced by a public utility. Like electricity. It costs nothing to issue money. Congress should create an institution and either administer it itself or contract out the administration to a non-profit organization to grant credit (which is money) with the express proviso that such credit is granted interest free. Anyone who needs money can just borrow it from this government sponsored insittution and repay this 'money' to that institution in accordance with the loan agreement which cannot contain a requirement for payment of interest on the loan. Another important restriction on the granting of credit would be that no credit would be granted for 'financial speculation'. That term has to be further defined.

That is what should replace the Fed. Lots of issues to be resolved--but that's it in a nutshell. This would stop, if not reverse the inequality in the distribution of income and wealth. That inequality is entirely due to the existence of systemic usury, and popular ignorance of the mathematics involved in usury.

For obvious reasons, the usurers will not go along with this idea. I think this is something akin to what Bill Still is suggesting--but I have yet to hear him cut to the chase about his plan.

I'm don't have the time or energy to answer questions about this proposal that people cannot answer for themselves by studying the current system and using a bit of common sense. I'd be more than happy to respond to concerns that indicate any fatal flaw in this proposal.

Meanwhile, we just have to live with a growing inequality which will self correct when it is no longer sustainable.
