Lahinch in Co Clare was one of the west coast towns to suffer significant damage (http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/severe-weather-attributed-to-human-impact-254279.html) in Thursday night's storm, and judging by the ferocity of the waves in the below photo, it's not hard to see why.
Photographer and surfer George Karbus (https://www.facebook.com/pages/George-Karbus-Photography/125621960817621) took this pretty incredible picture of Lahinch promenade getting a proper beating in storm conditions last night.

The Czech native and award-winning snapper, who lives in Lahinch, told breakingnews.ie that the storm last night was not even as powerful as the one which cause widespread devastation in the popular coastal town in the early hours of Friday morning.
"The big storm was at 5 or 6 in the morning so nobody was up to get (photograph) it," he said.
"The waves in the picture were last night, when conditions were a little smaller," he added, still describing the swell as the heaviest he had ever seen in the area.

This is a very big storm for sure. Surfline had an article before the swell arrived to notify everybody about it. They've only done that a few times.

Also it's not often that the wave height scale runs out of purple and has to go to gray to indicate swell heights.

this is a continuation of the storm that brought that snow to the midwest & east coast recently.

42 feet @ 20 seconds was the buoy reading associated with the peak swell & 100 foot faces at Maverick's that was described by Shawn Alladio, during the 00's.

55 feet @ 17 to 20 seconds means that a small contingent of big wave surfers are traveling to Ireland and Portugal right now, and that we'll probably be hearing stories about legit 100 foot waves during the next week.

Looks like the swell will arrive on Monday. Checking the surfline forcast in a few spots in Ireland and Portugal, 50 foot waves.

gunDriller, check this out. Agucadoura in Portugal. This looks like a normal beach break, but at 6pm tomorrow, they will have 80 foot waves. I would love to see video of that.
