Reminds me of a friend of mine parking his houseboat when drunk.

I bet the ship was taking on water, flooding. That's the only reason why I can think of parking a boat like that.

No, the ship was being decommissioned and that was where it was set to be scrapped.

Takes place in india. Youtube has some cool vids of it. Basically these vessels cost more to scrap in a 1st world country than they are worth with the EPA type regs and osha stuff so there's a section of beach in india where they run them up at high tide to be dismantled. A friend of mine use to work for a marine insurance company and has been there a couple times. Says its a real eye opening experience not just seeing how they do it, but how they live there. Guys torching steel off ships barefoot and shirtless, no safety concerns at all. If someone falls to their death into the hold nobody bothers getting them out till they get down that far with the dismantling then whats left of them is just shoved out of the way. There's a whole town sprung up around there. Piles of salvage parts for sale. Anything that comes off a ship. Everything stinks like ass. Chemicals, diesel fuel, oil, sewage all mixed together. He said he's never been so glad to get the hell out of a place.

They speak Turkish... Strange though, it looks to be in good shape, new painted, from the looks of it on the video... Maybe someone cast an evil eye on it...
