Not saying I believe this stuff by the way. I'm assuming the lighter fuel is leaving residue on the snow while it burns causing it to turn black. This might be where the plastic smell comes from too.

Also there is no visible moisture since snow is very dry and like a sponge, so the moisture is being absorbed into the clump of snow. Actually it's probably just sublimation where there is so much air in the snow that it's causing the ice to convert directly into water vapor.

I'd heat it up with fire from a wooden stick. It has to be the lighter fluid that's doing it.

The point is it shows the mass idiocy of the conspiracy movement, and the level of distrust of the government.

dice can blow it out his ass. vin Crosby, CBS local Channel 8 affiliate (KBOI news meteorologist) actually declared on his segment 4 nights ago in the 10:10 PM slot that the stuff on the ground is NOT snow, but is instead chemicals from the authorities deliberately seeding the clouds overhead in the very tough valley inversion locking in friends and family in your general area, Shami. they live in the treasure valley. seems you are further east in the magic valley and closer to boise, right?

i actually heard that crosby guy even NAME some of the chemicals being used. he started out his weather segment with this explanation. i was slack jawed at what i was hearing. none of the named chemicals he rattled off were that silver seeding stuff I remember hearing about as a kid.

he said authorities were trying to make it rain or truly snow so that the inversion would break down so that is why they were dumping particles overhead. family sent me the short video clip from the station. family also said some of the stuff on the ground was perfectly round pellets and some irregular looking fragments alongside it just like the weatherman had said in the video.

Seems too widespread, and timing of all the videos too close.

Stranded students sleeping in schools and on buses, coworkers camping out in vehicles on the side of the highway, and hundreds of cars abandoned on the side of the highway. This would all lead you to think that Atlanta has had enough chaos on their hands this week. But it appears that the big news from the East Coast isn’t the bad weather or the car crashes, but rather the conspiracy theory about fake snow that won’t melt or burn with a butane lighter.

Videos are being posted on YouTube in droves showing participants making a snowball with the white stuff and putting a lighter to it, but what happens next is raising eyebrows and creating a flurry of confusion. The snow doesn’t melt when the lighter is lit below it. Instead it “burns” and turns black while putting off a strong burning-plastic smell. Social networking sites are being inundated with these videos of people trying to melt these snowballs. It is causing people to ask friends who live in the Atlanta area to go outside and check out the snow, make a snowball and see if it is real or fake.
Some conspiracy theorists are saying the snow is manufactured and is a “test” to see how people respond to such an emergency. Others are saying the clouds have been seeded to cause the snow to fall in an attempt to control the weather. The most extreme theory? That the non-burning snow is evidence of “chemtrails” from airplanes that fly over unaware citizens and douse them to test the chemicals. Fear is apparently fueling the fire because as the videos get posted, they are being shared all over the social networking sites.
Is this some sort of massive government conspiracy to test chemicals on American citizens or is it a fairly simple situation to explain? Reason tells us that there has to be some sort of simple explanation. The latter, of course, is the answer. Butane burns dirty, meaning it burns leaving black remnants behind. A lighter will leave behind this black remnant on almost any surface. Then as you heat up the residue, it puts off an unpleasant smell. This waste product left behind from the butane is why the snow appears to turn black.
Snow doesn’t melt when it is put over a small flame because of sublimation. If you consider dry ice, you know that it turns from a solid to a gas. The snow is packed hard enough to actually create a capillary effect causing any melted snow to be drawn into the unheated parts of the snow instead of dropping off in drips. If the snow is put over a fire that is not fueled by butane, the snow will melt. So putting a snowball over a natural gas stove or barbecue grill will cause immediate melting to occur.
My recommendation? Buy stock in Bic, because lighter sales are likely to skyrocket over the next few days.

I made a video in real life testing it myself. This is my first real YouTube video I've recorded in real life so sorry for the quality:

This was done on February 5, 2014 at around 6:15 PST.

First I tried it tightly compacted and it melted with a blackish brown residue I assume from the lighter. It smelled like butane/plastic. There was a lot of melting going on and I could feel water droplets.

Second I lighted lightly compacted snow. There was no black residue and the snow melted right away. When I smelled it there was no butane/plastic smell at all. This melted a lot faster too.

Anyways based on my experience here everything seems normal and there is no evidence of geo-engineering, but I do live in a rural area so if there is a "snow conspiracy" that may effect it.

For my experience this conspiracy/myth is busted, but that's also only based on where I live. Everything seems completely normal here. There may be a snow conspiracy with geo-engineering going on in other places but I don't think it's going on here at all. The way the snow reacted here is different than what I saw in other videos.

Looks like the south east is going to get another storm. I will try the melting snow thing to see if we get the same results as last time. Was strange that when using a candle the snow still smelled like plastic.

Your lighter was turned way up, not going to have the same results. Although it looks like your snow reacted different then mine did even with the huge flame. The Bic lighters I have can not be turned up either, using a candle still gave the heavy plastic odor.

You can adjust the bic lighters to an extreme flame. Take off the metal band around the top and lift the adjuster off the gear, slide it back and down again and adjust it forward. You can do this multiple times to get an enormous flame. It is dangerous though and a nasty trick if you don't tell someone it's been done.

I'm in the northeast and I did used a match and got the same weird result--it turned black and smelled weird. Also, now, it's definitely not melting as it should be, given the temperatures and sunlight we've been having.

Where I live the snow seems very normal, but we almost have very minimal pollution. Chemtrails are very rare here.

So far what we do know is that strange polymer fibers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZq0At8NHRo) have been found in the snow in several states. We know that snow recently found in several parts of the eastern U.S. smells like burnt plastic when melted under a flame (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mafjwGKZkoc) or in a pan (using no butane).
Samples of the snow have even been taken and dried by Henning Kemner, a researcher who posts videos on YouTube, under controlled circumstances. So far, at least one test conducted by Kimner using 2 pounds of fresh snow has shown a rather impressive yield of an ample amount of a dry white powdery residue (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VW8f2NqCDM0) which Kemner plans to get analyzed spectrally.
However, even to my surprise, new findings posted on YouTube show that America may be under attack by entomological warfare as vast quantities of fleas have now been found in new snowfall (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZq0At8NHRo) following low-altitude passes by aircraft inCraig, Montana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig,_Montana).
Shockingly, this matches up with diabolical tests conducted on human beings by Biological Warfare Unit #731 during the World War II era.

Then section (b) says that the prohibitions in section (a) do not apply to tests carried out for virtually any purpose. So section (b) completely negates the prohibitions of section (a).
To no surprise the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta has also acknowledged the possibility of using the “plague as a biological weapon (http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/plague/consensus.pdf)” in a white paper about “medical and public health management”.
