Steps to martial law.

Possible scenario would be banks shutting down on a Friday afternoon due to a virus in the system.

ATM's down, online banking down etc

That is your red flag that come Monday morning Martial Law would be implemented.

This is old, but still important. There aren't many scenarios that would lead to a financial collapse because "the system" has too many safeguards and backups. However, a widespread systematic virus infiltration seems to be the one scenario that could actually bring the financial system down in one swoop. And it's not so much online banking and ATMs, such as the ability to make any electronic tranfers within the banking/credit system. For instance, if there is no mechanism to pay suppliers and distributors, then supply and distribution would come to a halt.

I envision in that scenario that suppliers/distributors would ultimately be "mandated" to perform during the emergency period, and I think they would comply because there would be such public pressure on them to rescue the nation. That's why I think that most likely SHTF scenarios involve serious but temporary disruptions that would have a cumulative negative effect on standard of living over time, but no Mad Max situation. So I'm not so sure about the Martial Law focus of this video, though I could see that happening regionally or locally on an intermittent or temporary basis.

electricity failure = collapse. everything is done via debit and credit cards. heck, even the banks don't know how much you have unless their computers are working. the main reason i fear for a carrington type event would be that commerce is instantly destroyed.

This is exactly what I was thinking watching this. I'll take most of my emergency cash and head to town and load the truck. Even if a bank shutdown to fix a virus/glitch for the weekend was legit. There's no telling what your account may look like once back online. Half of what we have in the system may vanish instantly.

Think Cyprus. That did that to test the waters. In USA, they will make sure the TV is still on for folks to sit back and get brainwashed during the shutdown.

Yup, widespread electricity failure is another big one. I often wonder how long these emergencies can last. The government has vast resources, and they know that this types of disaster scenarios are of the utmost political importance, so they usually get fast attention. That's why you can be 90% prepared by simply having 3-4 weeks of preparations, and the means to protect it.

P.S. To me, the most difficult scenario for establishing self-reliance is a nuclear event. I feel like I have at least a fighting chance in the other scenarios.

BANK OF OKLAHOMA ANNOUNCES SERVICE DISRUPTION OF ONLINE AND MOBILE BANKING

Recent natural disasters such as the Moore tornado, flooding in Colorado, and Hurricane Sandy have demonstrated to all of us in the banking industry the need to be prepared for unforeseen events. Accordingly, Bank of Oklahoma will be performing a disaster preparedness drill that may impact the availability of some banking systems, including mobile banking, online banking, and more.

The drill will begin at 8 p.m. Central Standard Time on Saturday, February 15 and run throughout Sunday, February 16. Our ATM network will be fully operational all weekend for deposits, balance inquiries, and cash withdrawals.

ExpressBank will also be available, but will have limited functionality and will likely experience higher than normal call volumes and extended wait times over the course of the weekend.

To minimize impact to you the weekend of the drill, consider making any transfers, deposits, or online bill payments earlier in the week before the drill begins.
