I can't find the thread now, but we were talking about $20 silver.

The question-du-jour is how much the stock market tracks with the PM prices.

Obviously we can talk about different time-frames - 2014, since the April 12/15 2013 weekend when recent interesting price action started, 2008/9 when the miners and PM prices hit their lows (HUI in October-ish 2008), WHATEVER time-frame.

Where can we get these archives of daily price activity ?

Does getting access to them involve paying money ?

Because industrial demand for e.g. Copper is sometimes one of the forces pulling on the price of Silver and the Gold-Silver ratio, it would be great to have archives of Copper price trading activity too.

Here's a chart of the S&P (^GSPC) against GLD and SLV which track the price of physical gold and silver. Notice in August 2013 when the stock market was taking a hit, gold and silver had a 10% and 15% rally. Also, silver gained during the recent January 22-Feb 3 market dropped, though gold also experienced a drop.

As for the 2007-2008, gold and silver went up dramatically through March 2008 while the market was starting to slide. Then, during the big market drop into October 2008, gold and silver got hammered. Finally, when the stock market was making its final leg down from January-March 2009, gold and silver were making dramatic gains.

These charts are interactive. You can zoom in on whatever date range you are interested in.

i found the daily price charts for precious metals.

for example,

http://www.kitco.com/hist_charts/silver/24_hours/2013/ag01012013.gif

... Silver @ $30 to start 2013.

i would venture to guess that the data i asked about exists in the form of about 365 GIF's in the '2013' folder @ Kitco. i'll try ground hog day 2013, see what happens -

http://www.kitco.com/hist_charts/silver/24_hours/2013/ag02022013.gif

it didn't work ... hmmm.

try it as a link -

anyway, that's the basic idea.

it looks like Kitco has the data, but doesn't turn it into a GIF until requested. either that or they serve up the image file, but don't allow outright linking to it.

for a lot of data, i don't have the time to take screen captures of the Yahoo Finance Flash-driven Dow chart.

i wonder if the equity analysis industry archives the daily price action charts as image files somewhere.

On Kitco, go to the tab for "Charts and Data", then choose "Historical Charts" for the metal you are interested. From there, you can get charts for whatever time period you are interested in.
