I looked up "St. Valentine" and there is a different story, where he was executed for political reasons. Nothing about the story with the muggers.

But it also looks like there may have been more than one Saint Valentine.


Whether it was a mugging or a political execution, somehow the holiday has morphed from those somber proceedings to the purchase of chocolates and flowers.

I don't need corporates to tell me to be romantic to my lady. Nor do I need to buy her expensive diamonds, sugar death chocolate or fuzzy made in China stuffed animals. All corporate gouging holidays are cancelled in my house. I figure I save anywhere from $500-couple thousand a year (Valentines, Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Black Friday). Instead, when her license arrives, we're gonna go buy a couple 9mm (his/hers)...........
