Anybody have an idea as to how spammers like this (http://gold-silver.us/forum/member.php?22545-Lena132) get through registration? The text appears to be automated (bot), but aren't there safeguards against bots registering? Truth be told, I'm not too versed in such matters. I'd be interested in learning more about it.

I don't know how the bots get in, but I deleted the posts and banned the spambot. This is why jqp turned off registration for a while, but this is just a price we pay to keep the doors open.

I prefer to keep the doors open, and ban the spammers that get through, we need fresh blood...^^^

There should be a captcha on the reg page and a link to follow that is sent to their email address. I have no idea what they have here as I don't do sox.

There is a captcha plus a simple gold/silver related question. I then screen all registrants, but sometimes a spammer still gets through.

Has to be a low grade spammer then if they go through all that effort to manually join. Do you have to activate an email also?

So I'm guessing a human registers and lets the bot loose after that?
