Article is huge: http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/dc-insider-theres-shadow-govt-running-country-and-its-not-re-election?paging=off&current_page=1

There is the visible government situated around the Mall in Washington, and then there is another, more shadowy, more indefinable government that is not explained in Civics 101 or observable to tourists at the White House or the Capitol. The former is traditional Washington partisan politics: the tip of the iceberg that a public watching C-SPAN sees daily and which is theoretically controllable via elections. The subsurface part of the iceberg I shall call the Deep State, which operates on its own compass heading regardless of who is formally in power. [1]

During the last five years, the news media have been flooded with pundits decrying the broken politics of Washington. The conventional wisdom has it that partisan gridlock and dysfunction have become the new normal. That is certainly the case, and I have been among the harshest critics of this development. But it is also imperative to acknowledge the limits of this critique as it applies to the American governmental system. On one level, the critique is self-evident: in the domain that the public can see, Congress is hopelessly deadlocked in the worst manner since the 1850s, the violently rancorous decade preceding the Civil War.

It may be a shadow government but it is obvious to see. I think all of us here can see it.

Perhaps most of us here can see it, but if you talk about it to the average joe sheeple, they will not only refuse to engage in a discussion about it, they will discredit you as a 'conspiracy theorist' and you will never get beyond that in trying to present any evidence to convince them. These people watch the nightly national news on TV. You will never hear anyone talking about a shadow government in the mainstream media. It's a bit of an anomaly, isn't it? Something you can clearly see, that doesn't exist because a majority of the people refuse to see it. A great demonstration of willed ignorance.

It is amazing and something I have thought a lot about. Look back to when Kennedy was assassinated; The shadow government was plain for anyone to see. He had instituted EO01111 to print government notes and just given his speech on secret societies. He was pulled down in front of all the sheep. There must have been a mad scramble amongst those in the know, to protect and insulate themselves. I'll bet a lot of people in government circles wanted to run for the hills. I do believe that on some level, most people understand about the shadow government. They just won't allow themselves to let the understanding surface. How do they rationalize it? They don't. They keep it locked up inside because they don't have a clue how to face it.

Are you saying Obama isn't calling all the shots, Bush wasnt really the 'decider' and Muslims aren't the real enemy?
I'll have to rethink all this.

If you find something abandoned you abate the nuisance. Seize it and put out a public notice that you are going to hold on to whatever you found until someone presents a superior claim and pays you for your service. If you can't find things that government abandons every day then you must be blind. For one ... they have abandoned the people.

If there were one article that I could convince the unawakened to read, this might be it. It's long, but very illuminating and worth the time investment.
