I was sidetracked on YT again yesterday watching New Zealand goat shooting. I came across this series of videos called Sniper 101. I have watched the first 3 and I think they are pretty good. There are more than 70 parts to this series but the detail is very in depth in these first 3.

Talking about calibers, ballistic objectives, terminal power factors and so on. I will be grabbing these for prosperity I think. I actually started a long way down the list of episodes. The episode I saw first was talking about scopes. Good info in that one.

My brother and have been doing this lately. Our home range only goes out to 200 yards so we've been going out to this mine. Somewhere out there are two gongs. One at 300 and the other at 500.

Long distance shooting comes in handy in the desert. What I've always thought looked like a couple hundred yards, was really 1,000. Desert distance is decieving.
Hope you're enjoying some of your new toys.

Years ago, I used to do lounge chair shooting with a mini-14 in Strawberry, AZ. I would shoot at flat faced sandstone mountains in the distance...over 1,000 yards away. You could see a nice puff of dust on the mountain to see where you were hitting. I
actually got pretty good hitting a reasonably small area for that distance.

I'm not sure if our distances were completely accurate. My brother was using a range finding cell phone ap and a cheap range finder. With the Rem 700 we could hit the farther gong all day long. Not quite with the short barreled Ruger Scout with a Leo scout scope and the PTR91 with irons. The GF was hitting farther gong with the scout effortlessly with her unorthodox shooting style. But she wasn't going to lay down in the sharp rocks. Everything we brought out was .308.
