They had a contest to see who could collect the most cardboard signs from panhandlers despite panhandling not being an offense in Midland. What paragons of kindness and compassion!
This just goes to prove what mean-spirited, cold, and callous assholes most cops are (yeah, I said most because even though their associates weren't engaged in this 'sport' they turn a blind eye to it and silence is acceptance) -

They should be fired, not given a 3 day suspension. They were stealing. That's grounds for instant termination from any type of job, public or private.

Things are different now mick. They tested our ethics back then. Once they hid money in my patrol car, to see if I would turn it in. I did of course, but it was a test.
I know of a couple officers who were fired, but they didn't commit any crimes like blatantly stealing from people. These officers should also be charged with a misdemeanor theft. The homeless should have their property returned and asked if they would like to press charges. That would be justice.

Even when they're terminated for such horseshit they often sue and get their jobs back - with back pay.

Or move to a different department because their prior records are sealed and their former bosses are not legally allowed to talk bad about them.
And they keep getting that pension padded.
