On a recent camping trip I found myself fighting to water tight a canopy with tarps, clips and zip ties, I mostly won but what a PITA!. The wind was a major factor in this struggle as well, even though the main canopy was well secured but the side walls were fer shit overall.
I don't want to repeat this again and there are more trips coming up and a good shelter is #1 on the list of things to shore up.
Anyone have any input?

LT, I have a 3 season marmot tent that I love dearly. I have used it over the years in all kinds of weather and conditions. I highly recommend dropping a couple hundred and getting one. It's a great shelter when out on adventures.

This isn't for sleeping in, just to hang out in, cook etc..a common outside area.

A canopy of any size is just a large sail in gusts and high winds. Either your structure is designed for gusts and/or high winds or it's not. If it's not then about the only thing one can do to address that is to make sure it's anchored adequately which can be tough or not cost effective for high winds.

I would consider getting a Costco canopy for long term camps. They're huge, about 10 x 20 and around $220. Lay a log on each side and tie to it.
If you want something more secure, have a shipping container delivered.

A guy I sometimes camp with uses a waterproof pop up duck blind as a tent. Seems to work fine.
