That was quick.
Stock market heading for new all time highs, gold and oil collapsing.
Back to the booming global economy!

Interesting that he pulls back right before all of the "summit" meetings on the situation, rendering them less important. He's a shrewd guy, so that may have been a chess move. Let's see what his next move is...

He is very shrewd! I don't think any politician in the world right now has the fingerspitzgefühl he has. His intervention in the Syrian crisis this summer was nothing short of genius...

Those aren't his troops, they are only troops that are loyal to him.

He went to ask his parliament to send his own troops in there after those guys arrived.

Vladimir Putin ordered tens of thousands of Russian troops participating in military exercises near Ukraine's border to return to their bases as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was on his way to Kiev. Tensions remained high in the strategic Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea with troops loyal to Moscow fired warning shots at protesting Ukrainian soldiers.

Mr Putin said there was no need yet to send Russian troops into Ukraine, but has not ruled out doing so.

Putin is a spook, rather than a general. He will do what he wants by operating under the radar, no tanks needed in Ukraine proper. Although it could still be a shooting war in Crimea. Putin will accomplish his takeover with mafia, KGB (CIA) bribery, intimidation, murder and fabricated news. Putin could care less about what flag flies in Kiev.

KIEV (Reuters) - Russian forces began moving troops into Ukraine's Crimea region by ferry on Monday after seizing control of the border post on the Ukrainian side of the waterway, Ukraine's border guards said.
Russians who seized the isolated Black Sea peninsula have been surrounding the ferry terminal for days but until now had not taken control of Ukraine's border guard station.
A border guard spokesman said Russian troops seized the checkpoint after the border guards tried to stop two buses carrying seven armed men, and the next ferry brought three truckloads of soldiers across.
Earlier on Monday, the Ukrainian border guards said they had seen Russia assembling an armored column on its side of the 4.5 km (2.7 mile) wide Kerch strait that separates the Crimea peninsula from southern Russia.
Russian troops have seized Crimea and President Vladimir Putin has declared Moscow has the right to intervene in Ukraine to protect Russian citizens in Ukraine, sparking the biggest crisis between Russia and the West since the Cold War.

Putin Says Those Aren't Russian Forces In Crimea

March 04, 2014 7:05 AM

(We updated this post at 11:55 a.m. ET.)

Russian soldiers have not occupied government buildings and surrounded Ukrainian military bases on the Crimean Peninsula, Russian President Vladimir Putin insisted Tuesday during a news conference near Moscow at which he gave an account of recent events that contradicts reports from the ground.
