House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) released a statement calling on President Obama to approve U.S. exports of natural gas.
Boehner says allowing natural gas exports would “impose consequences on Russia for its hostile act.”
“The U.S. has a responsibility to stand up for freedom and democracy around the globe, and we have a responsibility to stand with the people of Ukraine in the face of Russia’s invasion,” Boehner said in his statement. “We will work with the Obama administration on measures to impose consequences on Russia for its hostile act. One immediate step the president can and should take is to dramatically expedite the approval of U.S. exports of natural gas. The United States has abundant supplies of natural gas – an energy source that is in demand by many of our allies – and the U.S. Department of Energy’s excruciatingly slow approval process amounts to a de facto ban on American natural gas exports that Vladimir Putin has happily exploited to finance his geopolitical goals. We should not force our allies to remain dependent on Putin for their energy needs. Ending this de facto ban and expediting approval of natural gas exports is one clear step the U.S. can take to stand by our allies and stand up to Russian aggression, while creating American jobs at the same time.”
Experts have said (http://freebeacon.com/experts-see-u-s-energy-exports-as-foil-to-russian-aggression/) that adding additional natural gas exports could work to blunt Russia’s influence.

Boehner is the last guy who should be giving advice to anyone regarding "standing up". That guy folds more than a cheap suit and drops quicker than a Thai whore.

The push will be on, as the USD fades, to set up LNG so we can export it as a way to earn hard currency.

I think the translation is that our "cheap" NG is about to go through the roof, again.

Not a bad little article over at ZH today too. Are we going to supply gas for the whole of Europe? Where is that pipeline from the East coast to the Western shores of France?

There would have to be a flotilla of those big natural gas ships. I remember seeing of some PBS show Boston needs one of those every week or so. Trying to fill 25% of Europe's natural gas from U.S. supplies ain't going to happen (to any significant extent).

The Japanese might lease it out.

I don't know if the Energy Frontier could keep up though.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/tanker-lng-history.htm

On October 2, 2003, the Energy Frontier, an LNG carrier owned by Tokyo Gas' wholly owned subsidiary Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., Ltd., delivered approximately 67,000 tons of LNG to Tokyo Gas' Sodegaura LNG Terminal from Malaysia. The Energy Frontier is a moss-type carrier, having four spherical-shaped tanks. This carrier was designed on the scale of a conventional LNG carrier, but with 10,000m3 greater LNG load capacity, which at 145,000m3 made it the world's largest LNG carrier. The 145,000m3 of LNG, equivalent to the weight capacity of approximately 67,000 tons, produce approximately 87 million m3 of natural gas when re-gasified. This is equivalent to the amount of gas used by 200,000 households each year.
