Years ago all the Indians in Iowa were allocated reservations elsewhere. The Mesquaki tribe got homesick and returned to Iowa. Over the years they scrapped enough money together to purchase around 80 acres. In order to purchase this ground the governor did so for them in a trust arrangement. They now have a new identity and call themselves the Meskwaki and are quite prosperous having established a casino. They are so prosperous that members of their tribe when they reach age 18 are given a grant of $400,000. This guy is now 25 and appears to have invested his money in alcohol and drugs and seems to have settled a grudge with his parents by cutting them up with a machete. The money seems to have been poorly invested.

Federal charges have been filed against a Meskwaki man accused of killing his parents.

On Friday, an FBI agent filed a criminal complaint against 25-year-old Gordon Lasley Junior in the deaths of Gordon Lasley Senior and Kim Lasley.

The couple was found dead in their home on the Meskwaki Settlement in Tama County February 5th. A bloody machete was found on a couch in the home.

Lasley also faces state charges of first-degree murder.

Federal authorities can prosecute Native Americans who commit serious crimes in tribal areas.

Apparently in addition to being exempt from local laws regulating gambling the native American is exempt from local prosecution for murder which means the feds step in to prosecute.

Wonder how they do against the local speeding laws? Do the feds prosecute these as well?
