...................I can get behind that! The world is mostly grown up and do not need us/ most of our conflicts in the past were driven by big business to ether keep markets open of for resources. Most were not a direct threat to our population..

Again I use my favorite word..Greed! Which is universal to the human nature, in some ways it is getting better because of the information age. The shit of the past in many ways can not be repeated, but there will still be wars driven by greed or trying to maintain the "status" Quo!

Pull and put the troops on both boarders so there are no gaps, Am all for it.

I can see that most here have never served, which seems right since there was no dam draft since I got out..

You that diss are numb nuts, it took me a tad of years to figguer out that we should never have been or had anything with vietnam.

Now dump on my I do not give a shit, the ones that join today have their reasons, not why I joined but still liggit.

Do I support the politics,,,dan and hell no!

But for the grunt, biding his/her time, I do!

Hell I as Ponce (thank you , clewing that I may be eligible) have health care because I did serve.

All it takes is to give our life, and hope you survive, not all did or do.

And then there are still layers of crap..But it is free.

I stand my ground..

Now I am bombarded from the va, about my "mental" health amongst other things that I work to ignore.

It is fun to twist their tails, knowing that If I have a real problem, it will be fixed with the weight of the federal gov.

Now who can say that, ponce can or not agree. But he uses them..

any one else?

Seems akin to supporting guys who become cops and stay in it for the money while they bash heads all the way because their boss tells them to. They support their "team" and just bide their time until they qualify for their pension. I have a hard time supporting that even though they're just feeding their families.

Bumper sticker I saw a couple of months ago:

If you don't stand with our troops feel free to stand in front of my truck.I'm not so sure I know what "stand with our troops" means. To some it means "stand with our rulers".
The bumper sticker is not difinitive about whether supporting troops is the same as supporting the orders they're commanded to carry out or supporting them against enemies foreign and DOMESTIC.

Cool, I knew some would be "dumbfounded" Some have little choice in life, so they join the military. They will learn how to kill but more important is maybe a skill that will translate into civilian life or..

Be funded to edicuate ones self on what ever. Excust my spelling..

The thing is , We signed over our lifes , If lucky we lived. If not you get a neat head stone/flag to your family.

Because we served , and survived there are basic promises given us unlike most or all that did not sign over their lifes to the gov.

Now is it or was worth it, Good question that I can not answer for anyone other than myself. I am glad I chose the air force vs/army. The skills set a base line of knowledge that I have made my in life and living.Hell now I am t trying to get ogg there rader. Nice to they have my back, that is welcome at my stage in life, but shit,

But I guess it is better than nothing, all it took was signing my life away for 10 years, 4 active and the rest inactive.

Woman, you would be surprised, back in my day there was the draft, and if your number came up you were screwed. You had not a choice, I took 4 years which was 2 years longer than the draft called for, because I did not want to be cannon fonder for the army. Remember back then there was not a hent of the internet, or CNN, only the 4 magor networks and sat/cable was not even on the radar at the time, that came 20 or so years later.

But my time was what it was, it is nice to see, that any medical problem is on the gov's dime now....again thanks Ponce for clueing me.

How many that read this have served, at least I EARNED the right. to bitch, unlike most. I feel I am lucky that I did survived. Vietnam was not fun.

they that have served, and have done multiple tours, they did not do it for the stated reasons, they did it because of the family feelings that develop, when you are stuck with a group, to the point that you know them for the good/bad better than your real family..The Adrenalin high is addictive add that with your buds, you do not re-up for the nation, you do it for your friends/other junkys

This nation is facing unlike vietnam people that have served multiple tours in a god forsaken land that in the end, nothing changed. I fully expect to see, some of these time bombs to go off in time. You want to know what is stress is? Or delayed of the same.?

If you have never served, you have the right,to shame ,and bitch but if you never served never judge, unless you have walked in their shoes.

You are background noise..

I do not support the political reasons that our troops have spent their blood and lifes. But any student of history can see that the ones that send us is backed by big bizz. Tho when you have your feet on the ground and someone wants to kill you for the right or wrong. Lets play.

I do agree when bush went into Afghanistan, but we never should have gone into iraq, that was trying to finish what his father did not finish, and blood and lfes were wasted, for what?

I at least have a very good reason, with my drinking, there are ghosts of my past that talk to me, and I was air force, not army those guys had it 1000.000,000 times worse than me.

I got to know several pilots/crew flying F-4's that went up and never came back, Period!

I take issue with how easily even anti-authoritarians will use the term "serve" when referencing those in the military. It's just another one of those bullshit terms that has been deliberately engineered into the language and culture to give involvement in the military an altruistic connotation. I think many people store the meaning right next door to "serve the Lord" in their brains. Indeed, there is a nearly religious worship of military and LE in the current culture, so it's no surprise that programming these "meanings" in proximity to each other would be the most effective social design.

As a side note I went to Vietnam, Saigon in 1992, I met amazing people there, and it seemed like they mostly had been able to let bygones be bygones. I can't say I met anyone who held a grudge against the American people, possibly it would have been different in North Vietnam if I had gone there. Anyway see you later...

You are totally correct. Yet those are all SYMPTOMS of the problem.

If we keep focusing on the symptoms, the disease (statism) continues to grow until it kills the host (society), and the cycle must end. The only question is WHAT is going to come after the next cycle. The Magna Carta limited what the King could do to his subjects. The US CON limited that down to almost nothing. What do you suppose is the logical conclusion of what should happen the next time the 'system' comes crashing down? Should it be a even smaller 'Government' than the last? At what point will the Myth die out completely?
