Oklahoma Sheriffs Walk Out of Capitol After Senator Demands They Disarm While In The Building…

It’s a building of dignity and honor, but what happened at the state capitol recently has law enforcement crying shame.

“Everybody in that building knew who we were,” said Wagoner county sheriff Bob Colbert, who, along with 40 other sheriffs from around the state, converged on the capitol as they do every year to meet and greet and lobby. Until…

“One of the senators, who they wouldn’t tell us, complained because we were armed in the building,” he said.

They were then given a choice, disarm or there’s the door.

“So we all packed up and left,” he said.

Colbert doesn’t know for sure which senator complained, but has his own complaints about the complainer.

“We’re the people that protect these people,” he said.

What’s more, he says, maybe if they were worried more about state business then law enforcement officers with guns, Oklahoma would be in better shape.

“If the state troopers are satisfied that we’re ok in that building I’m pretty sure that the legislators should have something else to worry about such as the economy or something,” he said.

He says some lawmakers have called to apologize, but the sting of getting the boot from the capitol is gonna hurt for a while.

“Pretty sad day for me,” he said.

One of the senators, who they wouldn’t tell us..."

They need to find out who whined and make sure everyone in Oklahoma knows which politician doesn't trust their sheriffs.

Actually I think the rule should be applied equally. If mundanes like us can't be trusted with guns around our rulers, why should cops get special treatment? Of course, I reject the idea that a man (even with the label of politician) should be able to tell someone else what he can and cannot carry on his person, but as long as we live in this system, let them have a taste of it too.

Odd. I feel safer in a room with armed men than I do in a room where only one man is armed.

Maybe those politicians had been reading about all the cops shooting people that have cell phones, wallets or anything else shiney in their hands because they say they thought they were guns. Those politicians were probably afraid to make a move, get shot and have those cops take a two week paid vacation at their expense. They probably all breathed a sigh of relief when they were gone.
