Left this morning at 8:30, first stop at Toyota......looked around and saw a very nice battery car for $9,113 it was a 2007, told the guy that I would think about it..........went to KIA, fully loaded for $18, 150 out the door.........I wanted to pay with $10,000 cash and $8,000 with credit card, credit card company say OK....seller would not take credit card.........came back home for more cash.......car company would not take Canadian money.....by by Poince told them.
Went back to the Toyota dealer, 2007 129,000 miles with no guarantee, card was like new for being so old, bought it.
Coming back home saw a 2006 Mazda pick up for $5,250....looks great and engine like new, going to pick it up tomorrow.
Tomorrow will cancel my 1996 RAV 4 and insure the other two cars........RAV4 for back up of my back up hahahahahah.
So that now I am back to one car and one pick up.........life is good :)

The Mazda pick up is more than likely a Ford Ranger. What motor?

Good for you Ponce ! I really think I want a new car , but I have to censor myself, I have 3 , a little truck, a 4x4 and a hybrid SUV...... Just for you Ponce ( Sport Utility Vehicle)
I am trying to wait 4 years til I have to drive her to school 30 miles each way to school ( 120 miles everyday), then I will prolly buy a Nissan rogue $ 22000 out the door. Although I might get a little truck from a friend who goes to the auction ( salvaged tags) , for a beater truck, up and over the grade everyday right now, we'll see?

So you offered to outright buy the car with $10k in cash and $8k on a card, with the approval of the CC company, and the dealership turned you away? You must have had a stupid sales rep then, I can't imagine any company turning down an $18k sale.

Not only that but also the Canadian money which as you know is more valuable than the US piece of paper.

Well, your experience shows that it is not. The value of paper money is determined by what asset you can acquire with it. We mock the USD, but it's the paper of choice across the world. That may change in the future, but until such time it remains king.
But congratulations on your new purchase. :)

I think you'll be happy with the Toyota, they are reliable.

the 10K was canadian paper, not legal tender in the US. If he had US notes it would have went through without any issue.

I know Toyotas have good reputations, but the only Toyota I ever owned was a piece of shit that broke down time after time. Maybe I got a lemon.

And if the car salesman had any sense, he would have taken Ponce's Canadian cash exchanged it for US dollars, pocketed the difference AND the commission, and lived happier ever after!

Well, remember that my Toy truck last me for 23 years before crashed........about the Canadian dollar, Canada has more assets in the form of shell oil, minerals, land, and other than the US and also less debts.......there is a lot that will back the Canadian dollar WTSHTF......
Who ever had this Toy before me must have been a little old lady who use it only to go to church......everyday hahahahahah.

Toyotas do have good engines, my mom had one about 20 years ago, the old boxy camary, never had a problem, ton of miles too.

Overall Japanese cars have a major defect. They have a concept called 'finish to fit'. So if a crank gets ground undersized on a bearing they don't send it to a rebuilder. Instead the assembly line will put the engine together with standard bearing inserts except for the journal that is undersized. Makes rebuilding these engines interesting. You have to double check all dimensions.

The older toyotas were dam near indestructible like 89 camry and 2004 forerunner
Toyota's of today are just as sh! ty as a ford.
One bad sensor and its a trip to dealership to reset the check engine light

One of my cars is a 1997 V6 Camry approaching 200,000 miles. Still runs well. A few cosmetic issues, but mechanically, no problem. I had one fuel injector go out about 70,000 miles ago, but other than that no major problems (and that was not major, in fact it jut ran rough).
