its bizzare. How do you get to the starting figure? Then how does that help work out that the subtrahend is 316?

I sort of get the breaking down in to units, tens of, 100's of, so you get ones, tens, hundred etc. It just seems to be in the reverse to what would be logical. You would get the units component (57) as a carry over at the end if you did it traditionally. To my mind anyways. Common core scares the crap out of me. It isn't just the math. It truly zombifies people and really makes survival that much harder because these common core sufferers will end up being life terminators without any cognition of the murder they are committing. Automatons without consciousness and any ability to reason. Reason being the possibility of alternative action.
