In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off most life on the planet, a class system evolves aboard the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine.

apparently it has been edited for US release to make it more understandable to people in Iowa and Oklahoma. Less talk, more 'splosions ??

What an enlightening movie... not really. I wont spoil it but much of the movie is what we talk about here daily. It's worth the watch.

its a good movie but when I saw it I immediately thought of that woman. Anyway. Don't let that put anyone off. It's a very good movie. I wonder if it would wake anyone one up? It's got all the meme's in it. 1984, animal farm, geoengineering (chem trails), elites, soylent green... kind of. even the train itself was very symbolic

Good vs bad, controlled living, diversion tactics, revolution against military style police guards, population control, people live 3rd world while the rich live great, the rulers are above all laws, distributing drugs to help control etc etc. It's about all covered.

Glass

I think it's a great movie. I'd recommend it.

You piqued my curiosity. I've been a critic of your former PM (that woman in the pics above). I'll have to watch the movie and I'll try to guess why she popped up in your thoughts. There must be some deception/posturing and marginalization of people with opposing views. Also politicians who ignore the preponderant will of the people, claiming they know better what's good for the people than the people do themselves. I'll watch the movie with that in mind. I won't read any more of this thread until I've seen it.

At one point there was a message that you couldn't be leader of the underclass unless you've lost a limb,

either by "offering" before shitcakes were made available, or maybe thru rebellious punishment.

I'm aware the original link may have trouble, if so try searching for a .be site in lieu of the .co

Oops! I was talking about what my friend in Russia told me. The chinese dude didn't have subtitles which made that part a guess. Again this is what I have been told.

OK, Glass, here's my best guess for the Julia Gillard analog: Tilda Swinton in Snowpiercer. "My place is in the front of the train, and yours is in the tail." The condescending elitist viewpoint. She sells out Wilford to save herself. The opportunistic politician. I liked the expression on her face when she ate the Protein goo.

This is a dystopian movie along the lines of The Matrix, or 1984, Bladerunner, Brazil, etc. The message here is that this is the way humanity is, and it's always been that way. Stated as eloquently in Orwell's Emmanuel Goldstein book where there is a great description of the classes of humanity, and their motives and circumstances. I suspected it of being a piece of Hollywood propaganda, but it's not a Hollywood film--it's Korean. Nevertheless, the point is that revolution is hopeless because ti will change nothing, and cost too much because the people who have power are willing to take all of humanity down with them rather than lose their position at the front of the train.

Right on the money, A handler to keep the masses in their place. i think the shoe analogy was pretty epic. But you can see the psychopathy in a very raw way in that character.

and yes very distopian and it had all the elements of most of the conspiracies and multiple layers of societal symbology. Its hard to talk about without spoilers.

That and bring a large pile of explosive drugs with you when trying to stop the train. :)

Seems like enough people have seen it here to discuss in detail, Glass.

One has to question whether or not those three or four frozen in place escapees for the kids to have holiday over with Easter eggs

jumped from the train, or were thrown.

Compare these pics of Tilda Swinton with Glass's pics of Julia Gillard above:

And this is her character in Snowpiercer:

Notice the railroad tracks on her collar. And all the medals and ribbons.

This woman is an absolute fool, the number of times I have seen her getting tongue tied and falling over herself is too many to count. She is very poorly briefed and lacks the intelligence and understanding of the issues to be able to bluff her way through these press confrences like seasoned politicians can.
