This sure doesn't look like my country anymore. Is there any reason to be patriotic to the US?

The ACLU is controlled opposition - they like the technology, just want it used responsively. If they were really an organization fighting for public rights and liberties, they would favor New Hanpshires banning of the use of the technology.
Sounds a lot like the NRA (Not Really an Ally) on their compromise on gun control and reasonable restrictions

According to the Port Arthur Police Department's website, the LPR has three different cameras, and once the plate is scanned "the system searches the entire database in less than 1/10th of one second."
In a study by PERF, 71% of contacted police departments use LPRs; 85% plan on implementing or increasing their use in the future.
