Just think the people that lived here had dreams and hopes and a life and it's all gone, just gone....

They just need some work. I see a lot of potential in those homes.

Had a house like this down on the east farm but bigger, a retreat for the Catholic church it's still there just scattered around on the ground.

Grandpa told me it was haunted and no one would stay in it or camp near it.

After farming down there all these years my experiences tell me he was right.

I spent the better part of my teenage years partying in those places.

Buddy of mine used to live in an old coast guard station on L.B.I.

I still have the occasional nightmare or two i am stuck in the hidden midsection with no escape.

Yea man but when it got dark it was really dark inside those places with little light from the glowing cigarette butts.

There was one quarter in the back of the place that you just knew something terrible went down in.

Anyone, and I mean everyone who went through that room to get to the john walked briskly and agreed.

Was a house like this on the north side of town where a guy ended his life with a shotgun. It was abandoned for over a generation then renovated and people never lived in it for over a few months before moving out, several families in a two year period.

Then abandoned again.

Finally it was torn down.

I think those houses are pretty awesome, old steel. I like the look, they just need a little work. Don't think I'd like the ghost house one though, where the fellow killed himself.

The station was so large that when you finished painting it, you had to go back to the other end and start again. It was one of those places that the layout you could easily get lost in if not knowing well. They had lockers in the lower quarters for jailing pirates back in the day was the story.

It was renovated to rent out in sections during the summer, I remember jumping out the large windows with 30 or more people when the popo showed up at the raging parties, hippy chicks and bikini babes losing their clothes and possessions on the scramble away.

I bought a piece of land a few years ago that came with this on it.

No where's near the ones you guys have pictured but it was the fanciest house in this district by far. An English family came here in the teens with money and built on the worst land around. They went broke and left.

We've been talking about that for years. It is tempting but would be one heck of a project. It would be hard to do while holding down a full time job.

That's really cool, pitwab. Can it be restored? Might be a fun project and make a good guest house. There's some history in that old wood.

Some of those old houses have been warped so bad that it is cheaper to tear down and build new. The lumber gets a twist over the years that makes it dam near unsalvigeable.

No Mr Hitch she is beyond restoring. Unlike you Southern folk who have Turkey Vultures in abundance, we don't and a pair has used this place twice to raise young. I won't tear it down as it is just a cool place to spend a night or two and the boys like it. As for a guest house I don't need one as I let guests sleep on the floor in my basement which they tire of quickly and carry on with their adventures.OO)~ Definitely some history their and I'm glad I put in the low tender I did as I got it for 1/4 of what I been offered for it.
