View Full Version : What does it mean to be non existant online?

Hitch

I had an eye opening experience today. For some crazy reason, I 'googled' this gal I started dating. Turns out, she's all over the internet. She's a huge success, her business, etc.

I'm happy for her, but have to wonder, what will she think if she googles me? Online, I don't exist. Google my name nothing comes up about me.

For the longest while I've prided myself not to be part of facebook, linkedin, or any online social network. To be invisible.

I figured maybe folks on this forum would be the only ones who could relate. There's pressure to be part of the system. Many times I think I would have been better off been born 100 years ago, before all this existed.

I promise you that you're not 'non existent online' to the NSA so don't feel left out.

I don't think the NSA cares about 99.9% of us really. If anything, they just profile and gather trends. We are pretty non significant to them.

There's always some opposing attraction in any relationship.

Are you attracted to her because she's successful?

Yeah I think the NSA mainly gathers info to blackmail people in politics to stay in line with the agenda.

Horn? I don't think that he went out looking for her after knowing who she was...unless he is a web predator.

I am attracted to her because I think she's an amazing woman. I'm happy for her that she's successful.

I guess I should have rephrased the question. Is being non existant online, make you unsuccessful?

By not being a part of the online social culture, does that make a person odd, eccentric, or any other name we could call that?

I was just going to say that she may find him attractive because he is unsuccessful,

or excuse me, not online. :)

These opposite attractive traits are often and many times found out after the initial courting.

To me, not at all.

To her, probably, though not positively.

If measuring true success we all know notoriety on the internet should have nothing to do with it.

am I still going to be an unknown online if I date someone who has a huge online personal life?

An online profile that is all professional is a lot different to one that is personal. Keeping a low profile yourself isn't going to help if you are popping up in everyone elses facebook party pics.

And the NSA cares deeply about each of us.

They may not care about you but there are mountains in Utah with zetabytes of information about everyone including you. If you suddenly become relevant to them, you're just a click away for them.

I agree. They could push a button and poof Hitch gone....

What I think is a happening, or has happened, though at a societal level we have reached a point where if you are not 'out there' on the internet, there's something inherently wrong with you.

I've been wondering when this point might be here, and I think it is here now.

If google doesn't return any hits on you. If you are not out on facebook, what is wrong with you? If you don't have your own website....the list goes on. But when does it stop? When does YOU not become you? Just another digital glitch in the system.

wait a minute.... she is all over the place... what is the meaning of being successful? Does she run an agency to eradicate fiat money worldwide, give lectures to expose the PTBs, etc ?

or is she a yoga/reki teacher/master working for donations only and ppl flock to attend her classes... run a humanitarian organization with dedicated voluntaryists.. etc?

what does success really mean in this Matrix-Web of illusions?

my ex still thinks that working for a major TV Network is the paramount of success.. although he is not a big shot.

To post or not to post, that is the question.
I post, therefore I am.
The Internet is the opiate of the masses.
Is there life after going offline?

... if I hadnt doubted 911 and found the answers online, I would still be working for this wallstreet law firm's hot line into international settlement in 3 languages... so thanks to the net, IMHO

every human action is defined by rationality (what is known), internet or not... the internet just operates on a larger scale

She never claimed to be successful at anything, she's actually very humble, honest, and kind. Her expertise is rolfing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolfing

Hitch, you perceive her as successful... and that's why I asked this.

hitch should have someone he trusts on here who is registered on FB to look up his amazing lady by just her Facebook profile. the following link will use real life algo to issue a profile report. interesting stuff will be revealed, not just the obvious one she permits FB to do governed by her privacy settings, who her friends are, how many times she interacts with them, etc.

she would have to be on an existing friends list in order for the following exposure link to work.

she may be neurotic or a high value target, or good at hiding assets, or whatever. even an estimate of her net worth is calculated and exposed.

one of the algo's used determines whether or not one is considered sufficiently submissive as exhibited by their FB behavior, according to that algo so that they are categorized as "easily governed."

here's the "Digital Shadow" link, which is only good for USA Facebook users or so they say. http://digitalshadow.com/

watching the password hack attempts for 1min 4 seconds was fascinating and educational.

Try and remember that net presence has no relation to reality. The clever can be anything they want. On the other hand, if she seems nice just spend some time with her.

That's a promotion for a video game. Nonetheless, creepy regardless. Even more reasons to stay away from facebook, and other social sites, imo. I think I will stay non existant online.

Digital Shadow Mines Facebook to Learn Your Secrets

Where do you live? Whom do you talk to? Who do you stalk, and who stalks you? The "Watch Dogs" know — or at least they want you to think they do. "Digital Shadow" is a website, and accompanying Facebook app, that analyzes your Facebook posts and pictures, then presents that information as part of a promotion for the upcoming video game "Watch Dogs."

not quite, hitch.

the video game is called "Assassin"

the premise is for the Assassin game player to allegedly use only facebook privacy settings as a screening criteria for potential targets.

the thing i found the most creepy was watching the password hack generator use derivations of book titles i've either purchased or subsequently reviewed on Amazon, and NEVER DISCUSSED ON FACEBOOK WITH ANYONE!

so, this Digital Shadow website and its algos reach is way beyond FB.

again, the game is NOT called digital shadow.

UTILIZING ones digital shadow culled from many online postings regardless of where, that game is called ASSASSIN.

might wish to rethink your summary dismissal of my posting.

I'm with Pioneer on this one, 110%. If a "game" can algo you then what happens when the real deal is set loose? This type of stuff started somewhere and me thinks this is just one of its tiny roots.

Yeah, thanks Pioneer. I'm so obsolete at this point in regards to online technology, it's completely insane to think that a program could find even traces to amazon purchases...

Thanks for setting me straight. I did have the urge to "get with the times" and join facebook, but now that urge is gone. People willing give up their privacy for attention it seems. Amazing times we live in. Hopefully an EMP will come along and wipe all this mess out. :)

Dude, I'm pretty damn non existent myself but lets not fool ourselves either. The slightest moves we make online are tracked, searches, posts, sites visited, etc, etc, etc....Every friggin keystroke, even the ones you made and hit the delete button on are logged and recorded, that's a fact.

I've been tempted to get with the times too but there's no good reason to give them anymore than ya have to.

If you have little to no online presence then you will appear "mysterious" which is a plus. Also the woman will be reassured you won't always be mucking around online and will probably assume you have real-world hobbies and interests.
