Got to know some Thai monks when I was in country back in the day. Very good people, just like the greater population.
One of the things I learned from them and apply to my life when and where I can is the maxim "Bend with the wind"! (mai pen rai) I heard that the most when I was living there, and one of the major outlooks on life. Buddhist thing I think. Core values are kept intact.
Not a bad outlook or a way to direct life ether.
But most westerners cannot/will not understand.

Is like when I was at the library in Huntington Beach CA......I was sitting on a couch reading a book and across from me on another couch was the good looking lady, we had and earth quake and we keep on reading, when it was over I looked at her, she looked at me and smiled and we keep on reading as if nothing had happened.

Yep, if one lives in an area that is hit a bunch, nary a blip on the radar. But for sure for the short time it is happening I bet you were judging just like the lady in your post wither to be cool or run!
When I was a kid in southern cali, they were common and taken in stride with maybe a short held breath. But at night when woken up, I would probably be screaming, and for sure during a rare thunderstorm with thunderboombing. Took me years to get over that crap. (cold war duck and cover days)

Well, to my left was this heavy table that I was going to get under if things got bad.

Ever since I've moved to central america I've learned to fear Volcanos and mud slides more than Earthquakes.
The power lines out front are slightly ominous sight to run towards when scrambling out of the building in a hurry.
