Not sure if you folks have heard of these folding boats, but I've been wanting one for years, and finally bought one today. One of the older models, it was left mounted on some old guy's trailer for the past 10 years. She needs a good cleaning, but in decent shape, and I got a screaming good deal.

If you want a handy boat to mount to your bug out vehicle, have a look at one of these things..

Seen these or something the same at the camping shows here. Looks fairly robust. Would be great for estuary, river or lake use.

I have the 12 foot one. It's my project for today and tomorrow, get her cleaned up and on the water. From what I've read, these boats are extremely stable. The previous owner of mine took this boat out in the ocean salmon fishing. I hope to do the same with it.

You ever make some not so good choices, kind of knowing it's a bad idea, but you do it anyway? Today was one of those days. I knew it was going to be windy, but I took the porta bote out anyway.

This is one tough ass little boat. Going out the wind was maybe 15 knots at my back, and I got the speed up on the boat to actually surf the waves up the estuary. I anchored out and enjoyed the nature and read my book. I kept thinking the winds were going to die down, but they didn't, they got worse.

Going back I motored into the wind 30 knot winds, into 3 foot breaking waves, and the porta bote took it like a champ. Even kept me mostly dry. Will I do that again, no, but at least I know this is a great boat. I have to name her now. I'm going to call the guy who sold her to me and thank him.

I highly highly recommend the porta bote. Scour craigslist and try to pick one up if you can. A tough little boat is a great prep item, imo.
