View Full Version : Modern large city police training video

The APD police academy lasts 8 months, it only takes 3 months to train a Marine.
A well informed friend mentioned to me that in this video the training includes the policy of 'shoot first, this is war'. I've only watched a few minutes, it's been eye-popping so far, it appears the training officers are unable to train their troops without verbal abuse including plenty of profanity (actually described in the video as 'frequent profanity' and one wonders why street cops act the same way toward lowly 'civilians') -

Hey Hitch, this series of training vids clearly shows the mindset instilled in today's cops, what you at times consider 'exemplary Boy Scout/good guy types'.

That video is pretty accurate man. In my academy, 33 started and 21 graduated. I'm surprised we even had that high of a number.
I had one instructor punch me in the eye during a training. As my eye swelled shut, he looked at me and yelled how hitting in the eye is not allowed and asked "Do You Understand?"
Sir, yes sir. That's what academy is, beating you up the whole time while you say Yes Sir and Yes Ma'am.

I submit this is evidence you were trained by mentally unbalanced sadists with the intention of creating even more mentally unbalanced sadists/bullies. I'm so shocked! /sarc

Trained by some hardcore dudes, that's for sure. They want you to prove that you can fight through the toughest of situations, and they will test you. I'm sure you know this, why have me point it out?
Not sure what your agenda is with this thread, you know all this...

I liked the drill where they had to tackle frail old people to the ground, and the doughnut shop drill was pretty good too.
The part that was interesting was where they are taught how to single out victims (hard working class people) that were most likely to be able to pay their fines and court costs and how to be sneaky enough to catch them doing something wrong.
Oh!, and how to always cite the victim with more offenses then necessary, that way they can give them a break on a couple...and the victim feels good driving away not getting ticketed for all offenses...but still has had his/her pockets emptied. lol
The trick questioning techniques part was kind of boring...everyone is on to them now anyway.

This friend was pulled over during the day six months ago on a remote, rural county road and THREE deputies (one in a marked cruiser, two in an unmarked car) drew their guns on him when he hadn't been doing anything wrong. It went like this:
Deputy: Put both hands on the steering wheel!
my friend puts both hands on the steering wheel
Deputy: Now turn off the car
my friend: I can't turn off the car now, you told me to place both hands on the steering wheel - which is it?? (as in "I know I'm being set-up to get shot so I just won't move." - "He made a furtive movement after he was instructed to place both hands on the wheel so we had to shoot.")

There seems to be some equivocation about purpose. In one breath there was a claim that their fubction was to 'serve' the people of Austin. And at another point, when they were speaking about their numbers--2 officers per thousand, there was a message that this is what it takes to 'manage' a population. So, which is it? Are they serving the population, or managing it?
The training appears to be designed for 'elite' military units--like special ops forces, and that explains the 8 months duration. It is designed to cull out all but the extremely obedient, and anyone who might deviate even slightly from policies set by superiors. Constantly asking them if they want to succeed, with the message that you adopt our way of thinking if you want to succeed. You cannot be an individual and be a cop. I'm sure it is like this in every police department in America. They are the enforcers of the will of whoever is issuing the orders, Militarized. I'm sure by the time they finish training, their oath of office will be just a bunch of words that are a formality to getting 0n the payroll.
I wonder how the instructors are trained and where. My guess is they go to Israel for their training.

I will never forget the day I graduated academy and was sworn in. Our lead instructor, whom we grew to fear, looked us over and said "you have just joined a gang".

I'm sorry Hitch, no disrespect, but this acknowledgement did not help your case at all.
Every gang I've ever known or heard of, always puts other gang members before anyone else, period!
So, what we have is a 'gang' of thugs trained to hurt people, there job is to protect corporate interests, they have the power to take any life they see fit and and get away with it...and, other 'gang' members will support and cover for them no matter what.
And we aren't in that 'gang'!
What's not to like about this 'gang'?
Please stop beating this dead horse...you will not change any minds about this gang at this forum.
I'm sure there are several police gang sites you can visit where the gang members love having their ego's stroked on what good guys they are.

That was a pretty good video and I saw future police being trained when I took a truck driving course. I went to a vocational school and the truck driver trainees would often walk past the police trainees. They were teaching the police trainees to be assholes and we would be meeting them later on the hi ways.
I was neutral on cops before I started driving truck but a few months later I was hatin their guts. I met a couple of the cops in Texas where these guys in the video were being trained. I could see right away that I had to shut up, look straight ahead and play along with them while they justified their existance.
They pulled me over just because I was driving a truck and because they could. There's a thick book of rules and regulations for trucks and they can always find something to write you up for.
When ever I had to deal with them either at a Dot scale or on the hi way it was the same feeling as when I was dealing with a rattle snake at home. You have to be damn careful when you're around them. SOB's

If one is behind the wheel of a medium duty truck or larger (or even a dually pickup with a loaded gooseneck) around these parts it's a matter of WHEN not IF one will get pulled over - no matter HOW careful and 'compliant with the *traffic laws*' one is.

EE, for the record, it's not about having a "case". I don't want to come off like I'm trying to sell some idea. I posted that gang quote, because it is true, that's all.
For what it's worth, the biggest thing I disliked about LE, was that you go around butting into other folk's business. They train you to try and catch people committing crimes, real crimes, yes that's good and if you can prevent a crime from happening, even better.
A live and let live philosophy doesn't fit well with LE.

'Law Enforcement' is a generous term for the police. The legal system is so corrupt, that it makes everyone a criminal--regrdless of how righteously you live your life. The police are more about population control than they are about keeping the peace or catching criminals. They are also revenue enhancers for citing violators of policies that involve 'fines'. They are, effectively, enemies of freedom, and agents of tyranny. All of us run a huge risk with such a monstrous gang in our midst. It's not enough to be careful when you are around them. Because they are unaccountable, and cover for each other, they are able to commit any crime they please without consequence, and many of them do just that. They'll shoot your dog just to demonstrate how untouchable they are. You have to be lucky as well as careful in any encounter with the police. They are no less dangerous than the criminals which they pretend to protect you from--maybe even more dangerous. Criminals are at least accountable for their crimes if they are caught, but not cops. If you can avoid them entirely you are doing all you can to stay safe.

Hatha, the cops navigate the gray areas of the law. You have to know these areas. To fight crime, it's not so black and white.
You have an amazing mind and your posts I truly learn from.

I am glad I live in a small town where the PIGS are scared of me. I had a B&E they asked permission to come on my property and again to access my home. What about that Pete?
