The end of the washing machine? The hi-tech metal ball that could turn your laundry basket into a washer

Luna concept uses steam and electromagnetic charge to remove dirt from clothes
Can be placed into any container with clothes in and clean them

It could mean the end of the washing machine - and a lot less hassle.
A Colombian student has revealed his concept for a 'washing ball'.
It can be placed directly into a laundry basket, and clean clothes without ever having to remove them.

The Luna concept is a metallic sphere with a small amount of water. It creates a cloud of fine particles of steam electrostatically charged, which comes out through pores of the metal surface, vibrations and pulses then scrub and shake farbic, removing dirt.

HOW IT WORKSThe Luna concept is a metallic sphere with a small amount of water in it.

It creates a cloud of fine particles of steam electrostatically charged, which comes out through pores of the metal surface.
It then rotates and moves between clothes through vibrations and pulses designed to scrub and shake tissues, loosening dirt.
The metallic surface of the sphere acts as a magnet: electrostatically charged, it attracts dirt particles impregnated with steam and sucks these towards the core of the sphere.

Finally, Luna dries with hot air the residual damp in the tissues.

The idea has already been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Electrolux Design Lab (http://electroluxdesignlab.com/2014/submission/luna/) contest.
Luna is an electrostatic spherical washing machine.

'The idea is not to put the clothes into a washing machine, but rather, the washing machine between the dirty clothes,' says Juan Camilo Restrepo Villamizar of Colombia Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, who developed the design.
He claims consumers will be won over by its ease of use, but also the environmental advantages.
'Users are increasingly aware of the care of the planet.

'Luna renews the fabric care experience, in a simple, elegant and sustainable way, he said.
'The sphere reduces the consumption of water and energy, optimizes time and reduces the effort required in washing and fabric care.
'These are the reasons why Luna will be part of the lives of the users of the future and of the transformation of the homes, in healthy homes.'

The luna design turns the laundry basket into a washing machine - all owners have to do is drop the metallic ball in to get their clothes cleaned

HOW THE CONTEST WORKSThe competition is conducted in stages, allowing the applicants to develop their concept throughout the process.

After the voting ends May 16, the decision for the Top 70+ will be announced May 19.

Ten of the ideas receiving the most votes will have direct access to the next stage and the rest are chosen by the team of Electrolux experts.

Once the finalists have been selected, the student whose concept receives the most public votes will be named the winner of the People’s Choice Award and will receive a prize of 1,000 Euros.

First prize will be awarded to a student that the judging panel considers has created a ground-breaking design solution for the future.

This student will receive 5,000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at an Electrolux global design center.

Second prize is 3,000 Euros and third prize is 2,000 Euros.

The theme for 2014 is Creating Healthy Homes with three focus areas, Culinary Enjoyment, Fabric Care and Air Purification.
'We are excited to open up the voting to the public and our employees around the world,' said Lars Erikson, Electrolux Head of Group Design.

'We received some really innovative, visually inspiring concepts based on this year’s theme.

'They range from appliances to smart accessories to holistic concepts, and support consumers in living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.'

I dont know how well it would clean clothes. Have you ever looked at the rinse water of a washer? Where does the ball lose the dirt just steaming and vibrating the clothes in my opinion wouldnt really clean the clothes. The kind of dirt that real workers get on their clothes is way to thick and some times greasy for a vibrating steam ball to clean effectively.

sure there it will always remain the intention to harm or not (which determines the duality in everything humans create)... but electromagnetism as an energy source is the way to go as everything in the Universe obeys such very Natural Laws.

Humans' brain is wired to understand and apply any electromagnetic concepts as it is electrical in nature and can tap into this vast pool of knowledge at will.

Tesla knew this already:

edit: the profiteers could thwart the project again, buy the patent to control obsolescence

odour? Interesting idea. Mix of steam cleaning and ultrasound. I suppose I need to wash this device or is it disposable? Electrostatic dusting cloths have wire woven through them and work ok.

Complete BS.

I got suckered many years ago with the laundry globe... got two of them sitting above my desk as a reminder. I trusted someone and tried it out. Then I began to look at the scientific principle the manufacturer claimed. They had "charged" water in the globe that would realign the charge of the water in the washing machine and not need soap. The concept was that wash water coming within some close proximity- 0.01 thousandths of an inch, to the charged ion solution and it would imprint the solvent properties of the wash water. One simple problem..... the charged water in the globe was inside of plastic that was thicker than 3 thousandths of an inch!!

As soon as I saw this, I knew it was a scam. I questioned my supplier who had no technical knowledge and the scam worked like a ponzi with people WANTING to believe it. Residual soap in washing machines and even just plain water without soap will clean some things very well.

Anyhow- I use typically less than 1/4 of recommended soap for most loads (and no laundry globe) and find the cleaning is just as good as heavy soap use.

since sound/frequencies/vibration have already medical uses, then it is good to wash our clothes

it all comes down to know which electromagnetic ratio to apply as each particle has its own frequency.

the invention will be prove right, if the inventor knows what he is doing :)

electrostatic has a lot more to do with synthetic fabrics... but I assume there is a way to fix this too

I also think that the wifi industry is using much higher frequencies than what is needed, on purpose, to make us sick.

when we recently moved we had to get a few new appliances. We got a "High Efficiency" washer and dryer set, mostly because were on a well and wanted to save water. I was REALLy skeptical because the the washer only uses a couple gallons, if that, of water per wash and hardly any soap at all.

I'll say to this point, I've bee really impressed. Cloths come out cleaner than our other washing machine which was the "old" kind that fills all the way with water (gallons and gallons). We've got 5 people in the house, including 2 kids under 7. Our cloths get plenty dirty doing the garden, working the shop, caring for animals, etc. The dryer is great, cloths will be bone dry in about 20-30 minutes with minimal heat.

Im not sticking up for the globe thing, seems like a scam and doesnt really make a lot of sense. As far as traditional machines go, I am sold on the H.E. stuff. The technology has come a long way.

We've also been going over to L.E.D. lighting in the house as we see the bulbs on sale ($5-8 on sale, 12-25 normally depending on type). REALLY impressed with LED lights (little behind the curve on them).

Now that I've gotten totally off topic, I'll shut up.

thats what many think about tesla :)

as it is today sciences are so fraudulent that it is frightens many, understandble.... but when one deals with the correct math, sciences work for the betterment of mindkind.

fear of sciences wont resolve a thing. Or why not trashing one's computer right now and go back to the amish lifestyle :(

what works for the whole Universe, is applicable to man and its environment, creativity and technology.

should this invention fails it is not because of the concept but the inventor's abilities OR the energy cartel plotting against him. They have done that countless of times.

If the power goes out your washer and dryer won't be of any use, unless you run the genie. I have a wonder wash, and it actually works very well. Just hang the clothes out to dry afterwards.

Interesting, about 25 years ago I sent to the navy my idea for a second sking attached to a submarine or a ship that would work as a
sound/frequencies/vibration and rather than pushing the water it would disperse it......I made a three feet proto and it increased its speed by 35% by using only 5% more power, there was a way to recup the power but I am keeping that one to myself........but of course they never even sent me a thank you.

Back in 73 I worked for a very LARGE aviation company and they spent 3 million dollars in five years trying to find a solution to a problem, five minutes after I saw the problem I gave them two solutions...after taking me here and there for the pony show they took me to this room, with three mouth pieces, who made me sign a bunch of papers..........and what did I get? not a damn thing.

electricity could come from magnets, sure it will require to abandon the way we currently regard our power grid.

(no polluting) Supraconductivity, which is an electromagnetic application) is the future

It is impossible to revolutionize the field without letting go the whole deceptive system we are in.

edit: I read Walter Russels' Universal One, a theory also asserting that without understanding the nature of Light and electromagnetism, sciences will continue to base their findings on the effect, instead of the *cause*. Breakthroughs will succeed one another then go ashtray, while adding every time a layer of new arising problems to resolve. His book is not only about this but mainly.

interestingly, "Nikola Tesla told Walter Russell to hide his cosmogony from the world for a thousand years".

But why?

because Tesla was aware of the evils of contemporary sciences?

there is a free online pdf format of Russels' book if you wish to understand the chart

periodicity is an absolute charateristic of all phenomena in nature

By chance I got in with a patent attorney who just to work for them. I'll tell you their name "Lockheed Aircraft" in Burbank CA, anyway he told me that they had no right to the idea because I got no help from them and I along made the proto, he got the patent for me...easy to find in the internet......."Magno Centre" in 1977, I think...........from this one patent 23 more were filed........is ok, I made my money with my "The Squeezable".............I could put two more in the market but I am retire and there are now to many regulations and bullshit................I AM RETIRED AND HAPPY :)
