I've about had it with all the so called disabled bastards around here, collecting a check and working cash jobs on the side or overpaying for farm ground (rent) and putting insurance in their wifes name. I know that there is a website to look up farmers collecting govt. checks but was wondering if there's a site to find out who's collecting disability.
Most of the people I know that are truly disabled don't collect a check, but work. How's things in your area?

11 million in the US are collecting these fat checks. I bet at least half are capable of working, but why should they when they get almost as much as a job would pay.

I had a neighbor a few years ago that was on permanant disability. I watched him do things that most in perfect health don't do. He was always on dirt bikes jumping hills, wrenching on cars, or slinging his boat around the yard getting it ready to go fishing.

One day it stopped and I didn't see him for a while. When I did see him he told me he had a bad dirt bike accident and almost lost his leg. he showed me x-rays on his iPhone. He had shattered every bone in his foot, ankle and leg and will be rehabbing it for quite a while.

Moral to the story...when we pay for someone scamming the system, sometimes we end up getting what we paid for?

One should be careful of what one asks for... He wanted disability pay and he got it! That story makes me believe in some form of cosmic justice!

The problem with permanent disability is that people become dependent upon it. They can't take the chance of getting a job and losing their benefits. I have an uncle who's on permanent disability. He's actually disabled and limited in what he can do. There's been several jobs that he wanted to take, but had to turn down, because he'd lose all his medical benefits. He wants to work, but they won't allow him too.

Another sad story I heard about, was about a young man who was on permanent disability...yet took a chance, and got a job. Lost all the benefits, including medical. Then he had a major downturn in his health and the family got slammed with 100's of thousands of dollars in medical bills. Had he stayed on permanent disability, everything would have been covered.

That is the problem with a lot of people on disibility. They were injured and on disability...at some point they may be better able to work, but still have the injury. If they go back to work and lose their disability insurance and re-injure themself, they will play hell getting back the disability insurance, and like you say get hit with massive medical bills.
Before Oblama-bama-care they were uninsurable.
I can't blame someone with a real injury to not work and play it safe, but I do know of other people that are collecting it with phony mental problems and continue working.
All I can say is, I hope we get what we've paid for and everyone gets what they deserve.

Yep you are correct , I became disabled at 20 one arm one good leg and one bad ,various other points damaged and this year is the year I've received the most money ever in my disability check.
I feel sorry for you and the rest of the population if you work a job that pays even close to what I get. Doing the math not counting the taxes I pay on those checks at the end of the year if I were working a 40 hour per week job I would be making a @ $2.08 an hour .Now take out close to $1,000 in taxes at the end of the year like they took this year and recalculate it it comes to about $1.73 per hour. Yes I get $6,000 a year this year before taxes. LOL wanna trade checks ? A night out with my family would cost me over a week of the monthly check. What maybe 4 or 5 hours of yours. So no not everybody is living the high life off the system , I'd much rather be able to work 40 + hours a week than get $1.73 an hour.

That is usually quite easily fixed with a surgery, no anasthesia required...

Yes, usually it happens later in the life. Maybe he inherited the trait from both parents? I assisted in a couple of surgeries like this in 2001...

What happened to you at 20 Still Afloat?

Motorcycle wreck , just for fun and games i guess a guy in a car forced me into oncoming traffic. One of the last things i remember is seeing him laughing before i hit.
The nerves in my left arm were pulled out of my spine , so it just sorta hangs at my side semi bent so looks like I'm adjusting myself most of the time .My left leg has nerve damage so cant feel the pain in my left knee that was shattered , leg went between the wheel and fender on the car I hit and broke the A frame .Thats the main points several other things nerve related on the left side of my body to go along with it as well. Was given an option of trying to repair the nerves but being in the spine they said a better than 50% chance i could loose use of the right side as well and a chance i may only get back the feeling not movement so could just end up with even more pain 24/7 didn't like the odds so here I am.

You are correct, if I went back to work they would adjust my disability check to reflect the work done after my wreck and unless i could find a job better paying, more than the jobs I had for the 3 years before the wreck then My check would go down even more . I think my last cost of living raise came to about 2 cents per day @ $7 but the cost of insurance they deducted was more than the $7 .

In NM, this is very bad... many invoke mental illness to get it. EBT is even worse, I have seen people get 500 dollars/month (family of 4) in food stamps while working several jobs for cash and driving $25,000 trucks.

I guess people get a percentage of their wages at the time of injury...so some are getting a pretty good amount.

Oh if I loose disability and my insurance with it to buy it on my own would cost me close to $800 a month last I checked so to go off disability even if I could. the first $10,000 I made would be just to cover insurance and the $6,000 would be gone from social security disability so just to break even I'd have to make atleast $16,000 a year not counting what they would take out in taxes and social security .

Many years ago I pulled into a dump in Texas to unload a box truck full of debris from a remodel. A Mexican fellow hopped up into the back and started in with a shovel, helping me shovel out the debris. Worked like hell along side me. It wasn't until we were almost done that I noticed he was missing an arm! I had a lot of respect for the fellow. We can all work. All of us should work and pull our weight.
