Jacksonville (FL) Implements Orwellian Police State, Going to 18,000 Homes Looking for Drugs and Guns

This week, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office announced that they would be installing new security cameras around the city and knocking on more than 18,000 doors, without warrants, as a part of an initiative called “operation ceasefire”.

Sheriff John Rutherford, Mayor Alvin Brown and Councilwoman Denise Lee made the announcement this Tuesday at a press conference outside of the local Sheriff’s office. The sheriff admitted that many aspects of the program, including the security cameras, would be paid for with money that was taken from victims of the drug war.

“We’re going to use the drug money we pull out of this neighborhood to protect this neighborhood,” Rutherford said.

In addition to the aspects of the project which are being funded through asset forfeiture, the department is also asking for tax funding of over 3 million dollars for new officers. The stated goal of this program is to decrease violent crime, most of which is related to the drug trade. However, the violence of the drug war is a direct result of prohibition, and the best way to stop that violence is to end prohibition.

So they really think that the criminals are going to hang around waiting for them to confiscate their weapons? That is laughable. They will confiscate weapons from law abiding citizens who will then become more vulnerable to predators. Crime and death will increase. These people are not the brightest.

From the comments section;

Casey Beaver They will come in anyway and steal anything they want to cover the costs. Seize your bank accounts so you can't afford attorneys. Sell your vehicles after you fail in court because the appointed clown they give you actually works for them so trades your life for someone else's with the DA. Unheard of? Negative! Every single thing I mentioned already happens. It's hard to get things done when they deny you bail for completely arbitrary reasons and then only give you access to a telephone once or twice a week for mere minutes. I know, that's my story. We had bail posted. Proof of the money coming from legal sources and the people who provided it showing up in court saying yes, they did put it up and yes, they do have a real job. And we couldn't get released. As a result I lost my house that was almost completely paid for as well as just about everything else I owned. All because of statements we never made, and testimony of "facts" that were actually physically impossible. And that was 15 years ago before all the new seizure laws allow them to just keep shit. They did it then, they'll certainly do it now.

There are ways to make yourself 'judgment proof'. This is a condition wherein you own nothing that can be seized.
