makes me think of all the carmakers that have patented their vehicles for decades, now coming face to face with a more advanced technology freely available to all. intellectual property is bunk, always been. preventing thoughts from circulating or silencing them is a criminal act. No thought is entirely original.

CEO Elon Musk says so.

Tesla is now an open-source company, allowing its electric vehicle patents for outside use. Musk made the unprecedented announcement Thursday on his company’s blog.

“Tesla Motors was created to accelerate the advent of sustainable transport,” he wrote. “If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal.

“Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology.”

Nikola Tesla wanted his inventions to be a benefit to all mankind. The money interests not only marginalized him while he was alive, but erased his name from the history books. I just wonder if a hundred years from now anyone will know about Elon Musk? Just wait and see. Some large corporation will take his patent and drive him out of this business.
