The power to be will hide how many death we have had, or are having, in the US......till is to late.
======================================

Newser) – The Ebola outbreak that was called "unprecedented" when it had killed 80 people in March has now infected at least 500 people in three countries and health authorities say they're not sure how to stop it. The outbreak has now killed at least 337 people, making it the worst since the incurable virus surfaced in 1976, and reported cases have surged 60% over the last two weeks. "There are many villages in the eastern part of Sierra Leone that are basically devastated," a virologist tells NPR. "We walked into one village ... and we found 25 corpses. One house with seven people, all in one family, were dead."

Experts say the virus tends to kill so quickly that outbreaks are relatively easy to stop, but this outbreak, the first major one in West Africa, is different, with the virus spreading from Guinea into Sierra Leone and Liberia. "This is a complex outbreak involving multiple locations in three countries with a lot of cross-border movement among the communities," a UN health agency spokeswoman tells Al Jazeera. "This makes this one of the most challenging Ebola outbreaks ever." She says fear of the disease has hampered efforts to isolate infected people and more needs to be done to get sick people into treatment and track down people they have come into contact with. A few days ago, the first cases surfaced in the Liberian capital, including at least seven deaths, the AP reports. At a hospital on the outskirts of Monrovia, staff and patients fled after the death of a nurse.

"There are many villages in the eastern part of Sierra Leone that are basically devastated,"
if this statement is true it follows that the number of infected must be at least 5,000 not 500. It started in 3 countries at the same time... That would indicate that someone started it. Seems like the cat is out of the bag...

This is pretty bad. It means Africa needs to be isolated and now. Immigration from Africa to the west needs to cease immediately. Assuming the transmission vector is not by vaccine program. I understood it was not an easily transmissible disease.

(Reuters) - As many as 75 scientists working in U.S. federal government
laboratories in Atlanta may have been exposed to live anthrax bacteria
and are being offered treatment to prevent infection, the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday.

The potential exposure occurred after researchers working in a high-level
biosecurity laboratory at the agency's Atlanta campus failed to follow
proper procedures to inactivate the bacteria. They then transferred the
samples, which may have contained live bacteria, to lower-security CDC
labs not equipped to handle live anthrax.

Dr Paul Meechan, director of the environmental health and safety
compliance office at the CDC, said the agency discovered the potential
exposure on the evening of Friday, June 13, and immediately began
contacting individuals working in the labs who may have unknowingly
handled live anthrax bacteria.

"No employee has shown any symptoms of anthrax illness," Meechan told
Reuters.

Meechan said the normal incubation period can take up to five to seven
days, though there are documented cases of the illness occurring some 60
days after exposure.

Meechan said as many as seven researchers may have come into direct
contact with the live anthrax. But the agency is casting as wide a net as
possible to make sure all employees at the agency who may have walked
into any of the labs at risk are being offered treatment.

Around 75 individuals are being offered a 60-day course of treatment with
the antibiotic ciprofloxacin as well as an injection with an anthrax vaccine.

Meechan said it is too early to determine whether the transfer was
accidental or intentional. He said that all employees who were doing
procedures to inactivate the bacteria were working in a biosecurity
laboratory and were "tier one select agent approved," meaning they had
undergone a security reliability review and deemed to be "stable,
trustworthy individuals."

Meechan said the CDC is conducting an internal investigation to discover
how the exposure occurred and said disciplinary measures would be taken
if warranted.

"This should not have happened," he said. For those exposed, he said,
"We're taking care of it. We will not let our people be at risk."

it now went from three to seven countries if Africa....that they would no longer release infection rates and death tolls to the public......US not yet taking precaution.......(let your conscience be your guide)
================================================== =================== V

Earlier this year it was reported that the deadly Ebola virus had broken through all containment barriers making its way to seven west African countries. In an effort to stop widespread panic gripping the affected nations government officials told the Reuters news service that they would no longer release infection rates and death tolls to the public. In recent months, with no updates being provided to the public, many outside of Africa assumed that the virus spread had subsided.

But according to the latest figures the Ebola contagion is now deadlier than ever. A senior official with the organization Doctors Without Borders spoke with the Associated Press this week and warned that a second wave of the epidemic has taken hold, thus far claiming the lives of over 300 people with the infection confirmed in at least 550 people.

The Ebola outbreak ravaging West Africa is “totally out of control,” according to a senior official for Doctors Without Borders, who says the medical group is stretched to the limit in its capacity to respond.

“The reality is clear that the epidemic is now in a second wave,” Janssens said. “And, for me, it is totally out of control.”

The outbreak, which began in Guinea either late last year or early this year, had appeared to slow before picking up pace again in recent weeks, including spreading to the Liberian capital for the first time.

“This is the highest outbreak on record and has the highest number of deaths, so this is unprecedented so far,” said Armand Sprecher, a public health specialist with Doctors Without Borders.

The multiple locations of the current outbreak and its movement across borders make it one of the “most challenging Ebola outbreaks ever,” Fadela Chaib, a spokeswoman for the World Health Organization, said earlier in the week.

The outbreak shows no sign of abating and that governments and international organizations were “far from winning this battle,” Unni Krishnan, head of disaster preparedness and response for Plan International, said Friday.

Europe and the United States, while having issued warnings about the potential for Ebola to make its way out of Africa, have as of yet taken no immediate steps to contain the virus. Flights in and out of the region are still available and often pass right through major airport hubs like London.

The official fatality rate of those who contract the virus is over 50% and because containment efforts have failed to stop the spread at its source it is become increasingly likely that the virus could mutate as it touches a larger segment of the population. The virus is not airborne, so it is currently only passed via direct human-to-human contact. Researchers say that the possibility of the virus going airborne is small, but because of the rapid mutation capability of Ebola it remains a distinct possibility and the more exposure it has to humans the more advanced it can become.

There is no known cure for the virus, thus the only method of surviving such an outbreak unscathed is prevention through isolation, a strategy that Prepper’s Blueprint author Tess Pennington outlines in her online Pandemic Preparedness guide:

When an outbreak occurs, those living in cities, and those living in close proximity of others will be more at risk. Statistics from previous pandemics indicate that 30–60 percent of the population will contract an illness.

When the pandemic begins, many will remain in a state of denial about any approaching epidemics and not want to think of the long lasting repercussions of such a disaster. Being prepared before the mass come out of their daze will ensure that you are better prepared before the hoards run to the store to stock up.

Here are a few ideas to consider on how to better prepare for family for this type of emergency:
1.Taking proper illness precautions – avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes during any pandemic.
2.Create a sick room for the home.
3.Keep your immune systems up by getting lots of sleep, having a good diet and taking vitamins and antioxidants to protect your health.
4.Stay inside and avoid contact with others.

If Ebola were to mutate and expand further it could be a serious humanitarian crisis. As Tess notes, most people will remain in denial, assuming that government emergency responders will be able to get a handle on it.

But, as evidenced by the events in west Africa over the last six months, sometimes even the best laid plans are not enough. By the time most people realize that the situation is out of control it will already be too late.

I can only hope that you are thinking or doing something in order to get ready for this world wide disaster......I already made a Zombie killer hammer, I hope that you won't be one of those I will used it on.....get ready so that you won't be sorry.
================================================== =====

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), serious, contagious disease outbreaks can and do happen. CDC investigates new contagious diseases—averaging one new contagion per year. Given our vast array of transportation systems, these diseases can end up at our doorstep far more rapidly compared to any other time in recorded history. Since pandemics are fast moving, vaccinations would be useless.

When an outbreak occurs, those living in cities, and those living in close proximity of others will be more at risk. Statistics from previous pandemics indicate that 30–60 percent of the population will contract an illness. Any pregnant women, infants, elderly people, or those with chronic medical conditions are also at risk and could be the first of the population to contract the contagious illness.

When the pandemic begins, many will remain in a state of denial about any approaching epidemics and not want to think of the long lasting repercussions of such a disaster. Being prepared before the mass come out of their daze will ensure that you are better prepared before the hoards run to the store to stock up.

Having first hand knowledge of the government’s protocols before this type of emergency arises can help put you ahead of the game. Understanding that our lives will change drastically if the population is faced with a pandemic and being prepared for this can help you make better choices toward the well being of your family. Some changes could be:
◾Challenges or shut downs of business commerce
◾Breakdown of our basic infrastructure: communications, mass transportation, supply chains
◾Payroll service interruptions
◾Staffing shortages in hospitals and medical clinics
◾Interruptions in public facilities – Schools, workplaces may close, and public gatherings such as sporting events or worship services may close temporarily.
◾Government mandated voluntary or involuntary home quarantine.

With any type of disaster or emergency, the responsibility falls more heavily upon our shoulders to ensure that we are able meet our needs. However, this is not anything new to a prepper. We believe in being self reliant, and if you have followed the 52-Weeks to Preparedness series, you should well be on your way to handle such a disaster.

So how do we prepare properly for this type of emergency? Similar to other emergencies we simply prepare as much as we can because any steps taken toward preparedness are better than none at all.

Some of the following suggestions to purchase have been repeated in previous newsletters. Ensure that you have these items on hand in order to prepare for this type of emergency. To read more about pandemic preparedness, click here.

Preps To Buy:
◾Have a two-week supply of emergency foods that require no refrigeration.
◾Store 1 gallon of water per person per day, in clean plastic containers. Avoid using containers that will decompose or break, such as milk cartons or glass bottles.
◾Supply of nonprescription drugs
◾Pain relievers
◾Cold medicines
◾Decongestants
◾Stomach remedies
◾Anti-diarrheal medication
◾Vitamins that have immune boosting enhancers.
◾Fluids with electrolytes (such as sports drinks).
◾Bleach or disinfectant
◾Tissues
◾Garbage bags to collect soiled clothing and bedding before they are washed.
◾A thermometer
◾Latex cleaning gloves
◾Disposable gloves (in quantity)
◾Soap
◾Hand wipes
◾Alcohol-based hand sanitizers or homemade hand sanitizer supplies
◾An extra supply of your regular prescription drugs and medical supplies.
◾N95 respirator masks (in quantity)

Action Items:
1.Understand your communities role in pandemic preparedness. Find out ahead of time what your community’s protocols are in the case of a sudden onset pandemic.
2.For those with special needs, ensure that you have supplies ready for them (infants, elderly, handicapped, etc.).
3.Plan accordingly for pets as well.
4.Talk with family members and loved ones about how they would be cared for if they became ill.
5.Finding out your employer’s plans and ask your child’s school or day care what their protocol is during epidemic outbreaks.
6.Have some supplies prepared in your workplace.
7.Identify how you can get information, whether through local radio, TV, Internet or other sources.

"This should not have happened," he said. For those exposed, he said, "We're taking care of it. We will not let our people be at risk." The CDC said in a statement is has reported the lab-safety incident to the Federal Select Agent Program, which oversees the use and transfer of biological agents and toxins that pose a severe threat to the public. CDC spokesman Tom Skinner said appropriate background checks were done on all employees handling the anthrax, but would not say whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate, deferring that question to the FBI. Anthrax is a potentially deadly infectious disease caused by exposure to the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. The bacteria most commonly affect hoofed animals such as goats, but people who come in contact with the spores can also become infected. Infection can occur through a cut in the skin, breathing in anthrax spores or eating tainted meat. Meechan said CDC workers in the lower-security labs were likely not wearing masks, which would have prevented inhalation of the spores. In inhalation anthrax, bacterial spores enter the lungs where they germinate before actually causing disease, a process that can take one to six days. Once they germinate, they release toxins that can cause internal bleeding, swelling and tissue death. Inhalation anthrax occurs in two stages. In the first stage, symptoms resemble a cold or the flu. In the second stage, anthrax causes fever, severe shortness of breath and shock. About 90 percent of people with second stage inhalation anthrax die, even after antibiotic treatment. "

True Origins Of HIV And Ebola
Since the outbreak of the deadly strain of Zaire Ebola in Guinea in February, around 90 people have died as the disease has travelled to neighbouring Sierra Leone, Liberia and Mali. The outbreak has sent shock waves through communities who know little of the disease or how it is transmitted. The cases in Mali have added to fears that it is spreading through West Africa.

The Guardian also reported that Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known in English as Doctors Without Borders, had established treatment centers in Guinea, one of which came under attack as locals accused the foreign aid group of bringing the disease into the country. Also under fire is the government of Guinea itself, which has proved incapable of handling the crisis.

Runaway Ebola-Infected Woman Dies As US Doctor Tests Positive For Virus

It continues to go from bad to worse for Africa's "deadliest ever" Ebola epidemic which has officially claimed well over 600 lives, and unofficially many more.
Following the death of a Liberian government worker two days ago who collapsed in the international airport (http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-07-26/following-first-ebola-death-nigeria-red-alert-deploys-specialists-airports-contaimen)of Nigeria's 20-million megacity, Lagos which resulted in a "red alert" Nigeria clamping down into a quasi-quarantine state, sending specialists to airports and seaports fo containment, overnight we got an update on the other major Ebola story from last week, namely the female patient whose family broke her out of a hospital in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, and who had been on the loose of several days, leading to a nationwide hunt. She has passed away, dying in an ambulance on the way to hospital, Reuters reports (http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/27/us-health-ebola-africa-idUSKBN0FV0NL20140727?feedType=RSS&feedName=worldNews).

Amadu Sisi, a senior doctor at King Harman hospital in the capital Freetown, from which the patient was taken, said on Saturday that police found her in the house of a healer. Her family refused to hand her over and a struggle ensued with police, who finally retrieved her and sent her to hospital, he said. "She died in the ambulance on the way to another hospital," Sisi said.
Sierra Leone is now the African country with the highest number of Ebola cases, at least 454, surpassing neighboring Ginea where the outbreak allegedly originated in February. What is making things worse and is hindering the containment is that fear and mistrust of health workers in Sierra Leone, where many have more faith in traditional medicine. And over the past few days, this has culminated in crowds gathered outside clinics and hospitals to protest against what they see as a conspiracy, in some cases clashing with police as they threatened to burn down the buildings and remove the patients.

What scares me is and if it ever mutates like viruses do and then spread in the air (airborne as in breathing) then if someone infected travels by plane. Now it takes direct contact or by body fluids transfer.

But airborne sneezing or just breathing would do it in a airliner!

The crap then would truly hit the fan worldwide!

Pray that it never does.

Australia used to have a quaint Quarantine procedure for all aircraft landing in Australia. While the aircraft was taxiing to the terminal... which in those days did not include any air bridges or walkways... the hostesses would walk down the isle spraying both sides of the isle with these aerosol cans.

Was always a bit of a joke at how intense we used to be about stopping pests etc getting into Australia. Based on the smell of what they sprayed I'm fairly sure it was a popular household spray disinfectant called Glen 20.

Maybe we can reintroduce this process. I'm sure it will protect us.

we always had to give up any fruit as well. stop pests from getting in. Now we import a lot of fruit from countries with the diseases we didn't want. Only a matter of time. Globalization means you get to share everything.

I was in the US some time back and flew. Being I was so in the habit of giving up the fruit, I offered it up to the hostess. She looked at me like I was nuts. Earlier they had been around offering banana's. Would you like a Bah-nan-nah? You can't do the accent in typing. We say bar-nar-na. She said bah-nan-nah. I hear her every time I see a banana.
