A mother is brutally attacked while several people just stood around, watched and took videos in Salem County, New Jersey.
“I could have been dead right now, had she hit me in the right spot it could have been over, over nothing,” she said.
In pain and fighting back tears, 27-year-old Catherine Ferreira bravely spoke out Thursday. She is the victim seen on tape being viciously beaten in front of her 2-year-old son and bystanders with cameras.

“I think it's messed up no one came to my rescue,” said Ferreira. “We're supposed to set an example. You're in your 20s; I’m in my 20s like what are you doing?"
No one came forward to help the 4' 9", 100 pound, Ferreira during the taped beating except her son Xzavion. He repeatedly kicked the suspect, 25- year-old Latia Harris, trying to get her to stop.

“I became so much closer to my son because it's like he didn’t care what was going on,” said Ferreira. “He wasn’t afraid he just wanted to defend his mom. That’s my world right there. Like I love that boy so much."
"He's only 2 years old. He didn't even know what to do and he did what he was supposed to do," said the victim's brother Tyeish Brittingham.

Ferreira believes the attack was over a comment she made to a couple of friends about Harris and hermanager at McDonald’s.
“Life is more bigger than just a job or just a guy , there's so much more to life,” said Ferreira.

Police say Harris left her post at McDonald’s in uniform and confronted Ferreira in a field behind McDonald’s after Ferreira went there to get a cheeseburger for her son.

“It was disheartening to see a woman being beaten in front of her child,” said Salem Police Department Chief John Pelura. "Not only a lack of regard for human life but it says something about the general morality of people."
“I’m scared because she made threats about my life and my child,” said Ferreira.

Through it all, Ferreira, who hopes to become a surgeon after college, kept her sense of humor even after the brutal attack
“It's McDonald’s and I want a cheeseburger, hold the beating,” said Ferreira.

McDonald's said the following in a statement:
"I am aware of the incident involving one of my employees earlier this week. I am extremely disturbed by this kind of behavior and it goes against the values and standards that I expect from my employees in my restaurants. This employee will not be serving customers pending this important police investigation and I'm fully cooperating with the local police in this matter." -Jim Burlaga, McDonald's Owner/Operator

Salem Police say the McDonald's worker is expected to turn herself in tonight.
The video also shows Latia Harris kick and spit on the victim. She is still on the run tonight charged with aggravated assault and terroristic threats. Her bail is already set at $35,000 cash.

You wonder whether hate crime charges should be filed since it’s black on white – however there doesn’t seem to be, at this time, any indication that the motivation for the crime was racial.
Here’s another irony. Harris is wearing a hajib – a Muslim head scarf – which would lead one to believe she’s “religious.”
Not so much.
But you wonder: Should the bystanders be charged with a crime for doing nothing?

Should the bystanders in the beat down of a Salem woman be charged with a crime for doing nothing?

South New Jersey authorities were searching Thursday for a McDonalds employee captured on amateur video repeatedly beating a woman as the victim’s toddler son watched and bystanders did nothing to intervene and stop the attack — and even repulsively whooped it up at each punch as if they were at an MMA match.

The victim was left with limited vision in her left eye and she was also threatened with being shot during the attack. A warrant was issued for the suspect, Latia Harris, 25, of Salem.

Harris is an employee at McDonald’s, where she encountered the victim and engaged her in a verbal altercation. The subsequent attack occurred while she was on duty and after she followed the victim out of the store, according to police.

The video, briefly posted then deleted from Facebook, but captured by Top Right News, shows the victim’s 2-year-old young son trying to protect his mother by kicking her assailant in the attack which took place Tuesday night. “… this video is physically sickening to watch,” said Salem City Chief of Police John Pelura III.

Pelura said Harris remained at large Thursday morning. Harris is an employee at McDonald’s, where she encountered the victim. The subsequent attack occurred while she was on duty and after she followed the victim out of the store, according to police.
“Her whereabouts are unknown, but we are actively seeking her,” Pelura said. The chief said when police went to her last known address — a Salem City Housing Authority complex on Anderson Drive — it was “vacant.”

Harris is facing charges of aggravated assault and two counts of making terroristic threats.
Additional charges could also be filed against her, Pelura said.

In the warrant issued for her arrest, authorities charge Harris attempted to “cause significant bodily injury” to the victim “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.”

Chief Pelura said the circumstances around this incident are disturbing.

“There is a moral and social breakdown in the fabric of our society which is clearly evident when a woman gets pummeled in broad daylight in front of her child while a dozen people pull out their phones to record the incident instead of calling for help,” Pelura said. “There is so little regard for human life — by the actor and the bystanders.”

In a statement released Thursday afternoon by McDonald’s corporate office, owner/operator of the Salem restaurant Jim Burlaga said he was aware of the incident involving his employee.

“I am extremely disturbed by this kind of behavior and it goes against the values and standards that I expect from my employees in my restaurants.

“This employee will not be serving customers pending this important police investigation and I’m fully cooperating with the local police in this matter,” he added.

I am VERY surprised the savage restrained herself with regards to the little kid. The savage must have at least some moral fiber or the knowledge of how much shit she would get into by pummeling the kid too.

I don't mind African people much but fucking HATE NIGGERS with a passion.

Before I can draw a full conclusion to this isolated incident I would like to know the whole story. Not what he said she said but the real story. There was a bunch of NIGGERS filming so it looks to be premeditated but not sure. How do that many know where a fight will pursue and be available...

There are plentiful WHITE NIGGERS and I hate them also, unless this is plain in your face black vs white there is a reason.

Typical of NJ - people standing there watching a beating. No one wanting to get involved, no one with any balls, brains or conscience - too much dependency on their glorious police state to handle the dirty work.

Sorry collector but it is not typical NJ behaviour -- it is TNB.

Sorry collector but it is not typical NJ behaviour -- it is TNB.

Lived there for 9 years and I saw a lot of that. Not daily beatings but mostly people that wouldn't help or get involved - isolated in their homes, no sense of community and there was a desire for a bigger and bigger police state.
