I hate CFL's. They cost 10 times as much and they last very short time. I find they last a few months. I get tired of replacing so I don't mostly. When landlord wants to take a look. I have had them fall apart as well. Glue gives way.

We are also told that the amount of mercury is so low that it poses no threat of toxicity to humans at those levels. SO no safety advice. Not need.

Add to that, they suck if used outside in cold weather!

May or not ignite/start!

Lifetime here is hit and miss, some have lasted years some pop with in hours/days. They really do not like being turned off and on a lot/cycled!

They make my eyeballs hurt.

Another is LED lighting, bright as hell, doesn't illuminate for shit.

LED bulbs will get cheaper. A LOT cheaper. Just takes time.

Plus they have a 'legacy' problem - running off a power socket designed for 115VAC.

12 volts DC would work much better.

And while we are waiting for the new bulbs' prices to drop, I personally like using old 40 watt incandescent bulbs. Got a whole box of them.

I'm wondering if I some schlemiel errand boy for TPTB would try to arrest me if I tried to sell my box of incandescent bulbs on Craigslist ?

Kitchen part, your looking at about 5 Watts of power consumption here!

My favorite? Gen III night vision. Why attract zombies with visible light?

Bathroom 3 strips of led-lights at 0.7W each, 12 V system, costs less than a dollar each in Turkey, and expected to last for 30,000 hours...

Do you have several units then for guests? Or don't they mind sitting in the dark?

Right! The light strips for 12 V is much cheaper, I find the ones that are close in colour to halogen or incandescent light to be very relaxing to the eye. It is kind of silly using a bulb of led lights, that runs on low voltage DC, and attach it to the traditional light fixtures in a high voltage AC system. In my bugout house I let a small 12x16 inch solar panel charge a motorcycle battery, which runs 30 led-lights, if all of them are on in the night, which they never are, the battery lasts for 4 hours give or take. The whole system costed me about $150, if you don't count in the fancy Ottoman style ceiling lamp, with led bulbs, which will cost about the same, when I go next time and install it in September...

FewQs.
1) Looks like those are 3 VCR tapes on your window sill, behind the bottle?
2) Where did you find a DC powered VHS player?
3) Is that RC for recon?
4) Is it equipped with nitevision camera, also?
5) Where is the venting for your 4-burner gas stove?
6) Got blackout curtains for that wierd shape window?
7) You got DC powered refrigeration or other DC powered cooling devices?

Visitors get flashlights. We don't call them 'guests'. Bait is more appropriate.

No VHS anything. The RC is for my sons broken electric aero plane. No nitevision. Venting for the stove is the door if it is open, otherwise the house isn't particularly airtight. No blackout curtains. No electric cooling devices, planning on cooling with unglazed ceramic pots smaller one inside the bigger with wet sand in between and a wet towel above. Right now I hang a bottle in a wet sock for a few hours with whatever I want to drink cool. If you have any better suggestions, please tell, but I don't want to spend a lot of battery power on it!
