It's interesting how Technology Prices Fluctuate - sometimes you can get an RGD (Really Good Deal).

I realized, after struggling with a point-and-shoot to get some good macro shots, and after being advised by other photographically inclined individuals, that I needed a DSLR.

I started out lusting after the Nikon D3000.

When I first started, the D3000 was on sale for $349.

But after a few days, the dealer switched dealers (Newegg was just an order taker), and the price went up to $408.

So I thought, perhaps I should buy the brand that Newegg actually stocks - Canon. The lowest cost decent Canon DSLR being the Rebel T3 -

While I was learning about DSLR's, Newegg ran out of stock on the T3. FVCK !

The prices were creeping higher.

Then this morning, after a day of website downtime, BP Photo Video in New York, had the Canon T3 (Model 5157B002) on sale for ... $299.

I notice this a lot with technology.

If you are patient and take the time to be informed, you will have a chance to buy on the down-tick.

Of course, sometimes, the good deals go away. I was using a smart-phone as a small video camera (fits in a shirt pocket), originally purchased to help a friend witness a transaction with JP Morgan Chase.

It was $20. I was thinking about giving one to a friend that agreed to help me sell some tools, but today the $20 smart-phone is back up to $50.

I notice this with just about every tech product category - Western Digital Raptor hard drives (an aging but honorable relic), etc.

Now I want to buy a camera or a lens that will allow me to record video from 1/4 mile.

Yesterday there was an incident involving local police where they took a 59 year old depressed woman, and turned her into a 59 year old extremely suicidal woman, via the police black magic of pepper spray and flash-bang grenades.

I wanted to record this, but I knew I wouldn't be able to get near the ground zero.

So now I need to figure out what kind of lens to use for the long distance high-definition shot.

Anyway, cameras are a great tool for us People folks, not just for TPTB and their bloody gazillion security cameras.

And if you shop persistently, you might get a killer deal, or you might buy an useless point-and-shoot (another story.)
