Is There a War on White People? By Samantha Cowan | Takepart.com 21 hours ago Takepart.com (http://www.takepart.com/)
Allegations of abusing the race card have been thrown across party lines since before President Barack Obama became America’s first black president, but one Southern Republican is saying that Democrats have launched a race war, and their target is white people.

Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks brought up the alleged war on a conservative radio show hosted by Laura Ingraham (http://www.lauraingraham.com/pg/jsp/charts/streamingAudioMaster.jsp?dispid=302&headerDest=L3BnL2pzcC9tZWRpYS9mbGFzaHdlbGNvbWUuanN wP3BpZD0xOTA0Nw==), in response to questions about immigration reform and border security.
“This is a part of the war on whites that’s being launched by the Democratic Party, and the way in which they’re launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else,” said Brooks.
Brooks was responding in part to an interview National Journal editor Ron Fournier gave Fox News Sunday (http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/fox-news-sunday-chris-wallace/2014/08/03/sen-rubio-washingtons-failure-address-border-crisis-fallout-house-resolution-sue#p//v/3710807689001) about the Republican Party’s immigration policies. In the interview he said the GOP is seen as a party of white people.
“The fastest-growing bloc in this country thinks the Republican Party hates them. This party, your party, cannot be the party of the future beyond November if you're seen as the party of white people,” Fournier said.
In response to those comments, Brooks proposed that Democrats are attempting to turn immigration into a racial issue, when illegal immigration affects groups in every demographic. He cited loss of jobs and wages.
“It’s a part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008, continued in 2012, where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare, all those kinds of things,” Brooks continued.
Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney may have had more white supporters in the 2012 election, but white voters made up 39 percent of Obama supporters in 2012 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/11/08/president-obama-and-the-white-vote-no-problem/).
Would it serve the bottom line of the Democratic Party to alienate white voters with such a war? Doesn’t seem that either party could afford a war against such a large and influential voting population.
