View Full Version : I am going to be a total bum today

I am going to do nothing. I've decided that I've been working too hard lately, so I'm putting down all the projects I had planned for today, and am just going to relax. The weather is sunny and beautiful, and I'm pondering the blessings of life. I think I'll listen to some music, read a book on my kindle in the sun, maybe drink a few beers.
I figure it's easy to always be working on something. Today, I'm letting the time slip by in this sleepy sea town.
When the collapse happens, we won't have this luxury, so I'm taking this opportunity.
Cheers my friends. I hope you all have a great day too.

I read a quote the other day, somewhere that said something like this. "doing nothing is doing something if you enjoyed it", wish I could find the exact quote.

Yup, that is the philosophical question of the day. I was just outside sitting in the sun, drinking a cold beer, and thinking "can you actually do nothing?" Drinking a beer and watching nature, is something.
What do ya think, is it possible to actually do nothing?

I read a quote the other day, somewhere that said something like this. "doing nothing is doing something if you enjoyed it", wish I could find the exact quote. To do nothing, is to think nothing other than the is/right now. True doing nothing is let it flow without any thought of expecting anything to happen and going with the total flow.
Free form and less thought of anything other than the now, with no exceptions of any imminent future.! (live the moment)
Rare thing to happen with most today to make it a reality!
Edit: The way I live at the moment but long term it can be a rut!

I love me doing nothing, nothing isn't quite right either because what I'm really doing is thinking, writing, sketching and tinkering with whatever's at hand. Of course I'd be bummed if I couldn't execute what I'd thought up because there's joy in the hands on creating too.

Some people call it meditating, but that is a verb... ;D

Is not the true crux of meditation?
Thinking of nothing, driving all thoughts of anything out of ones skull?
Then going with the flow and living the moment?
Been doing TM, almost 40 years now!

Yeah, you're right, It is akin to meditation because its usually done alone and a lot of people just can't be alone or not active for long periods of time.

Fishing is more ZEN in thought than anything!

May disagree in part of your post, but it is a individual thing.

So, meditating is actually doing nothing, and making doing nothing sound productive. I like it! ;D
Of course, a meditation teacher might not like that. They get paid to do nothing, lol.

I agree, and fishing is productive too! Hopefully. I like to fish alone, personally.

Horn, this turned out to be a good thread.
We've learned...
1) Ponce is Irish
2) Meditation is the art of doing nothing while making it look productive.
3) A new term, weath. Which is yet to know if that is Irish or Chinese.

The witch I marred (first and only late in life) called herself black Irish she was a red head with a mass of freckles with a snakes disposition that was reveled later, I did not do my homework.
The myth abt redheads and temper..is true!
Her way or no way! Had not a clue about saving.
Never again!
Swap the w with a b, same diff.
3 years and boot out the door, still have bill collectors 13 years later looking for her calling me for a clue.

Indeed it is. It's when you have diorrhea, the 'weath' is what ends up on the toiletpaper... In Gaelic it would be 'aungerlych'

Sometimes it's best to put off until tomorrow what you don't have to do today.
Edit - doing nothing is something if that's the goal.
