From Hobbes English Works ... quoted for truth

FOR ALTHOUGH THE WORD LIBERTY MAY IN LARGE AND AMPLE LETTERS BE WRITTEN OVER THE GATES OF ANY CITY WHATSOEVER, YET IS NOT MEANT THE SUBJECT'S , BUT THE CITY'S LIBERTY

I find a lot of truths written in his works. Granted he seems to have come to a conclusion that monarchy is preferred but for his time I could see why he would arrive there. I wonder if he had an opportunity to live now if he would decide there was a better path.

The slogan of coppicemen everywhere is TO PROTECT AND TO SERVE. Now as they are officials of cities just who do you believe they are looking after? They have no duty or obligation to serve you or to protect you. Need help ... call the Tooth Fairy.

Hobbes goes on to claim

BUT WHEN PRIVATE MEN OR SUBJECTS DEMAND LIBERTY, UNDER THE NAME OF LIBERTY THEY ASK NOT FOR LIBERTY, BUT DOMINION; WHICH FOR WANT OF UNDERSTANDING THEY LITTLE CONSIDER.
