A 9-year-old girl accidentally killed an Arizona shooting instructor as he was showing her how to use an automatic Uzi, authorities said Tuesday.
Charles Vacca, 39, of Lake Havasu City, died Monday shortly after being airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Mohave County sheriff's officials said.
Vacca was standing next to the girl at the Last Stop outdoor shooting range in White Hills when she pulled the trigger and the recoil sent the gun over her head, investigators said.
Authorities said the girl was at the shooting range with her parents. Her name was not released. A woman who answered the phone at the shooting range said it had no comment. She did not provide her name.
It is not known if the range had an age limit on shooting or if the girl was going through a safety class.
Ronald Scott, a Phoenix-based firearms safety expert, said most shooting ranges have an age limit and strict safety rules when teaching children to shoot. He said instructors usually have their hands on guns when children are firing high-powered weapons.
"You can't give a 9-year-old an Uzi and expect her to control it," Scott said.

So I guess the old saying is true, 9 year old girls and uzis are a bad mix..............

I'm not going to watch that but it does seem like a serious brain fade. Was he actually an instructor or simply someone who knew the girl? And yes, what is with the uzi? I would have thought a .22 my first rifle level of firearm. Maybe someone insisted on that particular one for some reason or it was only thing available. hard to believe. Maybe they thought it was cute. Tiny thing. How dangerous can it be. Sad.

Should have been one of the parents that got it, not the instructor. Still though if I was the instructor, I would have never been the one to show a 9 year old girl how to shoot a fully auto uzi, let some one else do it.

I think the same sort of thing happened a few years ago at a NJ range, a kid with a full-auto shot and killed his father I think, the instructor should've kept one hand on the gun at ALL times, I think I would've at a minimum been standing behind the little girl and not to the side, you can see what happens at the end of the video, her left hand looses control of the grip and the muzzle climbs, looks like he probably caught a few rounds in the neck and head

Or better yet tether the subgun to the bench with two opposing tethers. Or still better, don't allow a young, totally inexperienced child to shoot something that's full auto, even if it is 9 sillymeter.
Even inexperienced full grown women can have a problem with getting off the bang switch before it becomes a serious problem -

Wow, that is some scary shit. That instructor wasn't doing a very good job - that little girl's whole body was just slack, she wasn't prepared for any recoil at all! Plus, the instructor forgot to tell the little girl to hold on tight to the gun - she fires it and it flies right out of her hand, and towards the instructors face.

Agreed. If you take a young girl out to teach her shooting, you start with a single shot .22 rifle, not a fully auto uzi.

Remember the first time I shot rock & roll, I was told to expect the muzzle rise, but it was still one hell of a surprise that first time.
The instructor was out of position, should have his hands/hand on the weapon as she fired the first time at auto with loaded a full mag, and she was clueless and IMHO too young for that mode of fire.
Lack of instructor control, and should have anticipated the automatic fire muzzle rise and young first time shooter!
Instructor = Darwin Award!

Better yet, don't let a 9 year old shoot fully auto weapons. Looks like some Muh Freedumb father was trying to be a Facebook star, hence the phone vid. There is just no reason for it, I started with a .22 rifle, that's how it should be. Also this "instructor" shouldn't even have been one, not even holding the weapon. Stupid + stupid =someone getting hurt or dead. Now we get a media outcry once again, guns are bad...

This kid could be an old hand ,started with .22 at age of 3 ,working her way up to tanks.

No - watch the video. That girl didn't know how to hold a weapon at all.

I guess it could be but I don't think something like this is that farfetched. I think Buddha nailed it.
